If you pay through the ebay system will you be linked?

If you pay for an item through the ebay checkout system and NOT directly from paypal, will you be an easier target for suspension? I've not chosen to link my paypal and ebay accounts as per the recommendation of the good people of this group. But the question is, are you safe to pay for an auction through the ebay "checkout"? Could this be another way they can "get you"? I ask because some people prefer you to use the checkout, and some don't even give you a choice. Thanks for any help with this!

Modee, how do you get the seller's paypal email if it's not listed on the auction? Yes, I'm in a similar situation with the other PP account. Once I have their PP address (I've noticed they're not all the same address they emailed me from) I should be fine from there. But without that, I'll have to pay direct through the ebay checkout.

By the way, why do you not indicate it's an ebay payment in the proper location? Doesn't that make it difficult to file a claim if the seller turns out to be dishonest and tries to take your money without producing the goods?

Oh and here's another one. When you go to make a paypal payment, do you log out of your ebay account and clear your cookies and cache before opening paypal to make the payment...or is that not going to be traced back to you?

I guess I'm a bit dull today. How are you able to send the payment if you don't put in an auction number? I've tried a couple times now and it keeps coming back to asking for the ebay number and gives me an error I can't get past. Do you have to pick another category? If so, which one? I'd really like to get this out today, but want to be careful just the same.

If you never go through the ebay main system to pay for anything, should I assume that paying direct through the ebay checkout to receive a $15 payment back from paypal (see the promo mentioned in my other thread) is a no no too? Thanks for the help.

It's definitely safer to pay directly, but I don't think using eBay checkout will cause you any linking, especially if you're using a new Paypal account.

Unfortunately a lot of sellers don't seem to give you any other option than paying through ebay checkout. I haven't figured out yet how to foolproof sending to a different address if you don't send direct through paypal. If anyone has, please PM me or list it here for the others. Thanks

If they give you their paypal address. Thanks to the new changes at ebay, many sellers now expect payment through the checkout (click pay now and follow the instructions) and there's no paypal address listed anywhere on that form. If you go out of your way to ask for their paypal address, you then make yourself stand out out from the pack and questions can arise. I did try sending to the email address that the email came from, but many times, it's simply X@ebaycheckout or something like that, a dummy address. And once, a seller with like 1300 feedback wasn't even shown as registered under that email. Dead end there. Makes things more complicated to send the payments.
