How do I change my IP?
 

I have a comcast modem/router combo in one box. I do not have the stealth guide to refer back to. I bought it on 6/7 but downloaded it onto my husbands lap top. He travels....and I've never been able to keep reading since then.

I am working on that ....but for now......

I unplug my box....wait...plug it back in but still same IP. What do I do?

What is the make and model of your modem?

Do you know if your ISP provides you with dynamic or static IP?

If it is static IP, then there is no point in rebooting it, you would need to check other methods of obtaining another IP, such as mobile tethering or dongle.

I've also tried this.....to no avail...


Go to "Start" > "Control Panel"
Left click on "Network and Internet" and then select "Network and Sharing Center". On the left side choose "Change adapter settings"
Right click on your network card and from the drop-down choose "Properties"
Under the "Networking" tab chose "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" or "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and then click on "Properties"
In the next window you have option between "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" and "Use the following IP Address"
You need almost always to select "Obtain an IP Address Automatically" to change IP address automatically. The other option, namely, "Use the following IP Address" is used for manually configuring a proxy server.
Then, click on "OK". Your IP address should be changed

from your description, you have the type of IP that is called STICKY.

It will not change easily.
