MC999 for duplicate listings but competitor okay? WTF?

Okay, so I have a listing on ebay: Auction, Buy it Now, 3 days. I want to list a duplicate listing, but I got a message saying I can't do that (MC999), but my competitor can do the same exact thing? WTF? I thought auctions were okay. I read somewhere that if it was a duplicate auction, then the second auction is not searchable until the first one ends or something like that. Not my competitor though! WTF is going on here????:smash:

First off, its not fair to compare yourself to your competitor. You don't know their situation completely inside and out. Maybe they've already cleared themselves, or worse, they may receive a nasty MCXXX soon. There's no telling.

It's hard to make your decisions based on what someone else is doing (and possibly getting away with).

Instead of duplicating the listing on the same account, why not sell that item on another account?

One of no nos of selling on a new account is not to list duplicates. That is why you need to spread sales to other accounts so you can list like crazy.

Duplicate listings on a new account will get you usually an mc999 real quick.

What is going on is your OWN inexperience.

Stop tripping yourself up over a competitor.

He may have the rights to list the items.

Try to work out what is going on rather than a hissy fit at another party beating ebay.

Experimentation is key to success OP - look at competition, and experiment if you like.

Sometimes listings is not so straight up, like Greenie indicated.

Maybe message your competitor and ask him how he does it. Worse that can happen is he tells you take a flying leap.

There is a way to avoid the issue of duplicates being sold.

Think outside of the box, change up everything including pictures etc.

Also, if you have multiples why not spread them out of several accounts?

The reason they get away with it is one of the following.

1. They have different pictures, file names, descriptions for each listing of same item.
2. They have multiple variations for each listing and or bundle them into 1 listing.

As for auctions and BIN's at the same time. They follow the steps above an keep the auction listing's rotating ie. same item but different pics, desc. An they keep the BIN the same.

All of these I do not recommend doing, it's a loophole but you will end up getting the MCxxx. Your competition hasn't gotten caught yet.

Actually, they were copied off my other listings. They were exact Word for Word. Lol

That's sick - complain and show proof with reference to old listings.
