List Risky Items Here

In this thread I hope that we can compare notes as to items that we have found to be risky and on new selking accounts that bring MC999

Re: List Risky Items Here

Basically, high risk items are anything highly counterfeited, anything that can be ⊗⊗⊗⊗d (jewelry with diamonds, etc.) or that is known to have quality issues. Other highly suspect items are those prone to scams, like diet pills.

And then, not EVERYTHING in a given category is automatically risky. A new account selling Disney Classic DVD's is risky, but someone selling their old copy of "The Blob" is not. A new account selling an 18k gold chain with a 1/2 carat diamond is risky, but a new account selling costume jewelry is not.

There could be an endless debate over what is considered high risk. Brand names can be problematic, just search the forums for a brand to see what people are saying.

There are countless threads about this. If you are talking about listing items on a new account which I believe you are. These items are extremely risky.

Brand name, high dollar, 0.01 listings, cell phone and accessories, electronics are just a few.

Reading the forum and doing your own homework is the needed method.

No point in making a public list to put it 'out there what is a risk'.....think about it

I agree with GB.

You cannot put an exact list out in the public.

OP must not understand everything posted can be seen by all.

Some things are best left off an open forum.

would a book that is brand new be considered "high-risk" or should I lie and list the brand new book as like new or good condition. thanks

Do not list anything NEW on a new account.

You might get away with it but why not list what everyone has been posting about for a year now.

USED household, yard sale, no name brand etc etc

Used books are very good to start with.

I agree with Sandy, but would add that once an account is established, selling new books is usually OK. For whatever reason, books are just not being counterfeited very much.

Household items, business use items, low-end collectibles are all good ideas to sell initially

Low end collectibles will attract a MC999.....

Be aware of that.

ebay has pulled several for users here who got given that advice.

The basis was the fact it was a COLLECTIBLE on a new account.

I agree.

What is a low end collectible?

If it has a NAME BRAND and it is truly collectible it would be risky.

Just when I think I have a handle on things something new to me comes along.

Please know I am not ridiculing what you said GB cause I read and learn a lot from your posts and advice but this one surprised me.

Everyone here should clearly understand to steer clear of any NEW collectible items because of the counterfeit factor.

As many here advise, don't list NEW items as a new seller. This can prompt eBay to ask for receipts as proof of ownership of what your listing.

All I list are collectibles for the most part. Used items, garage sale items, antiques, estate finds, but basically all are collectibles or they wouldn't sell.

My items are also lower end values which is part of what makes them collectible........ they are affordable collectibles for people on a tight budget like lets say buying old pens and mechanical pencils and advertisement things like match books and ash trays and old lighters.

Is this true? Is the word "collectible" a no-no???

When I say collectible it's pertaining to old watches, lamps, books, tools, jewelry and so on.

Old stuff that may at one point in time have been counterfeited but certainly never targeted for high volume faking back in the day.

I'm just looking for a bit more detailed advice here for not really me but for so many new members that are trying to walk softly with what they start selling.

The reason this thread caught my eye is because the items I list and sell are always low end and considered collectibles but I have never had a stealth account suspended yet for what I sell.

My experience with lost accounts revolved around poorly chosen stealth identity raising questions that brought about the dreaded SS#.

I have sold these without issues - no namebrands used...that's true: avoid namebrands.
