MC999 On Account That's Not Mine
 

I received an email this morning from eBay with an MC999 saying my account which I haven't used in over a year has been linked to a restricted account and they gave the user ID. I'm like wtf is going on here. I have not used ebay in over a year to buy or sell and my account gets hit with this. This tells me they are not half as smart as they think they are and they're linking methods are less than accurate. This is not my account, I did not create or use a different eBay account. I sure hope I don't get stuck with somebody's fees.

The fees will not hit you.

You happened to have used the same information with another Stealther who got suspended.

I created an account last year, listed an item which never sold. I left the account for several months. When I listed again, I got MC999 linking my account to another ID. I had no idea who was using that ID.

eBay is still on their game, but Stealthers are swimming in the same pool.

I don't live in an apartment but in our neighborhood everyone has partially the same address. Like 1111 ABC ST. then their house number.

@goteboy The info used was my own name address and etc. so I don't think it was that.

Somebody wanted your account gone and they succeeded. Call eBay and fight back, you may succeed.

Somebody wanted an account gone that had not been in operation in over a year? Somebody needs a life.

I think you share the same address or phone number with that ID. Someone on this forum had a similar issue and they got back their account.

Is your phone number a free service? Possible use by someone else? There are MANY potential ways of being linked....and sometimes you just get generically linked for no great reason

No, I've had this number for over two years through my cell phone provider. But somebody may have used another piece of my real world info. I'm actually dealing with the IRS right now over a tax return that was filed in my name that I did not file. Maybe these two these are related maybe they aren't.

I had the same problem with one of my stealths. Turns out the number I used was another old phone number and had been suspended. I got it resolved.

I doubt that someone is using your real info. It COULD happen, of course, but it is more likely a coincidence.

If it turns out that that is the case, however, then Bunneh is right, that would be going too far.

I would call eBay and see what they say. Play dumb, of course. Explain you have not used the account for awhile and act concerned that someone has used your information. My guess - and this is JUST A GUESS - is the link was weak (and a coincidence) and they will give you the account back.
