Suspension due to IP address??
 

I'm new to this forum. Lots of great tips and advice! I've searched and still can't quite find an answer to a question I have. It's regarding getting suspended/limited due to IP address linking. I'm currently running 4 stealth accounts using of course 4 different window accounts. I'm tracking my IPs, but my question is....what if during my DSL model reset I happen to grab an IP address that was used by lets say a neighbor who was suspended. Will that link me to him?. Tell me it isn't so.

supposedly. Thats why I don't worry too much IP, there'd literally be billions of linkage combinations by IP only

Hi,
The IP linkage alone wouldnt suspend you but if say one account was limited for another reason then it can then look at possible linkages to that through your IP - Its best practice to change IP with every account but like you say you could easily duplicate or use one that someone else has been suspended on. Plus the fact all the people using ebay on static IP's - so everyone in my office becomes suspended due to my one account? No chance.

IP alone, no. But, same origination IP and same last names among other account similarities - would probably trigger further review on seller accounts.

I think it'd also depend on the ISP. I'm sure paypal expects multiple IP linkages on mobile and DSL ISPs, but cable ISPs would be less expected.

The thing is, the IP alone won't get you banned, but it DOES flag your account. When a human being takes a look at it, there is a MUCH HIGHER CHANCE of being banned.

That is why fresh IP's are always the best way to go. Because they do not have any bad history with eBay and PayPal. The usual source of fresh Ip addresses is from corporations that have gone under. Their addresses were USED, but NOT for eBay/Amazon/PayPal.

So many people say this does not matter, that ANY IP is fine. Then they wonder why the highest limit they can get on an account is 5/500 or why their accounts do not last for more than a couple of weeks.

Of course it IS entirely possible to pull an IP that has never had a bad history with eBay and PayPal, but the chances get lower and lower if you use services like Hide My Ass.

I have been VERY successful with stealth and a part of the reason is that I ALWAYS use FRESH IP's that are both STATIC and DEDICATED. When you use an IP from a service like Hide My Ass, you never know how many other people are using their IP's (or have used their IP's) for the same thing. The risk is just not worth it, in my opinion.

Ye, as jeffweico mentioned, IP alone doesnt link the accounts. It will trigger them to review the account manually, at that point they look for item similarities/location/dispatch time and etc.

Well that sucks as the name will be some variation, items are exactly the same, addresses will be different, but all on the same street as I live in a brand new development and there are big gaps in addresses so i just pick a number that i know won't be used.

so, that being said...It seems I better be extremely careful with my IPs. :)

or, since I could careless in getting my items returned, just start using dummy names & addresses.

Like others have said, IP address alone will not cause this. But if you keep hitting previously used and suspended IPs then IP alone can cause it. But hitting a suspended IP once time is not enough. Also as Jeff said, this can cause them to do a manual review, which they will see more out of the ordinary stuff.

Same IP is without doubt the number 1 cause of getting accounts linked.

You should have a look at the stealth guide book, you'll see how much your old information can be linked.

I would not say that at all - cookies, same listings, same info....those are to be considered
