15 year old ebay account suspended
 

I have been selling on ebay since 1999 with no issues. 5000+ 100% positive feedback. When they implemented their new seller standards, I fell below standard. I had 2 new ebay users open return requests because they did not know how to communicate with me which put my defect rating over the minimum by 1 defect. This was when ebay had the messaging system set up so that the first two options automatically open a case. They have since changed the message system so that it doesn't do that. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who complained. Since my account has been limited and below standard I have been really struggling to make money. My fees payment was returned by my bank. I just didn't have the money in the account to pay it. I called to find out what I need to do and they said my account will be suspended, probably tonight when the computer recognizes that the payment had been returned. The agent i spoke to said he will appeal this once it happens. Anyone have any experience with this?

sorry to hear this.

you say account has been limited, can you explain what that means? is this ebay, and have your selling privileges been suspended or are you just below standard right now?

you have been told you will be suspended? is this for non-payment of fees? yes eventually you would be suspended for this but not immediately upon missed payment but usually a few weeks down the line, so you could opt to pay the fees.

depending on your answers, you might be able to salvage the account.

you may also be able to rest it and start other accounts for back-up. There is evidence that below standard accounts can be rested and then get their standards back months later

I mean my account was limited to 100/$5000 a month
Other than that it wasn't limited, just my selling totals
Prior to the new seller standards, I was at 7000/$70,000
I was being very careful to not get any defects, etc.
My account was supposed to be back to above standard in March

My suspension would be for rejected payment.
They said this would be the 3rd in 2 years and that
results in suspension

ok, the 3rd in 2 years is a suspension. Thats harsh.

so you just cannot get hold of the money to pay them then? because the 100/5000
could be built up again and you can make some back up accounts in the meantime.

you can add a credit card to paypal to pay fees, and pay card it off.

your real details are often worth saving if you intend to continue on ebay as your income.

just suggestions, up to you, hopefully others will chime in, but since you have a payment deadline that you think is tonight, you might want to think on it.....

I spoke to a customer service rep in the billing/suspension dept who said he was going to appeal for me if it is in fact suspended. My fees would all be due if it was reinstated, not just the ones that were returned so I would have to come up with almost $700. I'm trying. I'm still active so I am lowering the price on anything I can just to get the cash so I could pay it. They said the policy is 3 rejected payments in 2 years and you are suspended. The previous 2 were from when my checking account had fraudulent activity on it and the bank was declining all debit attempts. I had to open a new checking account. He said he could appeal based on that but he didn't know if it would work.

I know, this has been my account since 1999, I have worked really hard to keep it with 100% positive, etc. When they dropped me to below standard it killed my business. I went from $3K a month to less than $1K a month. I have been barely making it. I teach at the college but that's only a few classes a semester and it's not much money.

I do have an active account with Amazon and can move things over there but it's so hard to be seen with the volume of items on Amazon.

You can create brand new accounts for very little investment.

Ebay sucks man. Ive been in your place. Get more ebay accounts and don't rely on 1 account even if it's very old because chances is if you get it re-instated then it will be limited again. Ebay and paypal are harsh companies when it comes to business. They don't give almost no chance. Get more ebay accounts man and live in peace with yourself. It's a harsh economy and it's rough out there. Got to do what you have to do to live man.

Yes, I do feel really bad about it, which is ridiculous. It's business.
I am going to get some other accounts going.

Don't get emotional about the account from 1999, just make more accounts and spread the risk. Think of the money what you can do with it and invest it and do not think ebay or paypal is your 'friend' they not, they will never protect you and will always take advantage of you if your a seller.

Do that as soon as you are comfortable with stealth.

I am getting a new modem from Comcast. I have to switch to a different package and it comes with a new modem. I'm assuming that will assign my laptop and desktop new IP addresses? I could start out from there couldn't I. It seems that the IP address is one of the first things you need to work out. They haven't suspended my account as of yet but it's coming so I am trying to download as much info from my account as I can.

You should pay those fees up BEFORE the situation escalates and results in suspension. Either add your own credit card or buy a prepaid one just for the purpose of paying off those fees. Getting the account suspended for non payment would only serve to make a complex situation more complicated.
And regardless of the results with that account study how to do things the stealth way and prepare yourself some backup accounts.

any update as to what happened, it would be such a shame to see a account of that caliber to sink like a ton of bricks
