| | | AskSC | 04-09-2016 09:38 PM | What is a good amount to start with? Planning on starting with $100-200 items to grow the account. Is this a good idea? limit on account is $5000 and paypal is verified. |
| miketyson | 04-09-2016 09:42 PM | Re: What is a good amount to start with? Sounds good. Just sell things around the house low risk non branded items. |
| jeffweico | 04-09-2016 09:43 PM | Re: What is a good amount to start with? I would star with items priced between $7 and $50. At least in the beginning. Also, if you get scammed, you won't get killed. Selling 99 cent items would bring scrutiny on your account and selling high-ticket items (not that $200 is high ticket) can lead to losses, especially if you are new. I have been on eBay since it was called Auctionweb and I STILL like items priced under $50. It seems to have become a sort of "sweet spot" for me. |

Start lower.
paypal still want to trust your account.
Good Luck. |
Re: What is a good amount to start with? Welcome to the forums AskSC - start out with low end items and build good feedback and slowly move to higher items |
| AskSC | 04-20-2016 01:16 PM | Re: What is a good amount to start with? I've sold about 8 items now at $170-190. I've had my account for awhile now, but i've mostly just bought items. Sold 2 items prior to these 8. Planning on taking a break and then going to higher prices. This smart? |
| aking | 04-20-2016 01:27 PM | Re: What is a good amount to start with? The problem with high prices items is that you have to keep more money in your paypal account to cover returns, buyer complaint cases, etc. Especially the idiot that wants to open up a case because "it doesn't fit" or "it didn't work out for them" after they have had the item for 10 days and you have already moved the money.
I like items that sell in the $30-$60 range. |
| AskSC | 04-20-2016 01:37 PM | Re: What is a good amount to start with? Okay, i see. So sometimes ill have to refund them the money and thats why its better to do low priced items. So i can pull out more of the money instead of keeping it there. |

You need to make sure your paypal has funds to cover returns or it will go negative. |
| AskSC | 04-20-2016 01:59 PM | Re: What is a good amount to start with? Thank you! :) Do you know how long i should keep the extra funds for? 30 days? What if i had a no refund policy? |
| irahs | 04-21-2016 05:14 PM | Re: What is a good amount to start with? I generally keep the money in my account until either 14 days and/or 30 days- my return policy differs- passes or I get positive feedback. |
Re: What is a good amount to start with? I keep 2-3x the average sales amount at all times |
| yankee | 04-21-2016 07:40 PM | Re: What is a good amount to start with? I withdraw funds as they become available. I leave very little in paypal these days.
The price of item should be irrelevant to if someone wants to return an item. I don't understand that philosophy at all. It makes no sense. Someone can also want to return a $50.00 item or a $9.99 item.
You sell items that are profitable and non problematic. Hopefully the higher priced items reap a large dollar amount in profit. |

90 days is not a safe time but it is a lot better. | so for the first 90 days, its best to keep it under 25 transactions? then start selling more after 90 days? Some people get holds like the user above. How do you guys recommend getting passed the hold so i can continue to sell as much as i want without ebay interference? |

Then start a new one. because the holds for you come off 90 days after first sale. I have to deal with a 1k limit my first month though. since im creating my stealths from scratch and not buying them. |
| RosieTosie | 04-23-2016 05:12 AM | Re: What is a good amount to start with? That is not what yankee said. Selling like mad from day 1 will get undue attention on your account which, when you are running stealth accounts especially, you do not want. It isn't difficult to check around the pound, or in your case dollar, stores and charity shops to buy some cheap household items that will not look out of place on a new account.
On one of my charity shop trawls I came across a leather dress which I knew I could sell on eBay any day of the week, and sell it did. Shoes can be a good find in charity stores, especially really uncomfortable looking high heeled trendy looking styles, and they will also sell well. Recently spotted a children's Potters Wheel set in a Cats Protection League shop that sells quite a lot of used games and toys. Just get out there and have a look around these stores, you will find lots of things that are suitable for early days accounts.
Car Boot Sale weather is starting to arrive as well over here, they can be great sources of potential products to sell on eBay. My son once bought a Poker Chips set in a metal case, was a bit on the heavy side to get delivered but it did sell. |
| yankee | 04-23-2016 07:23 AM | Re: What is a good amount to start with? If I have 10-$1000 limits, I will run auctions and sell to those limits. Usually get an increase at day 7, sell again to those limits. Next month sell to the limits and normally have another increase. By the time 90 days comes along I have sold to my limits three times at least and have sold at least 100 items. Very rarely will the limits not get increases to 30 or 60 items in the first month.
Then after the 90 days comes up, I still sell the same way, but with no holds. When I get the tax info request I then determine if I want to add an EIN or not.
Hope this clears up any confusion. |

It is good, starting slow at first, low risk items always at the beginning, if you can lower the price is better, then you'll start to grow, I recommend to use a good proxy service or a mobile IP, is the best for business |

| Sislovesme | 06-30-2023 03:04 PM | Re: What is a good amount to start with? If your getting banned because your selling something for 1000 then your account was flagged before you listed it. i use to have that problem because my stealth game had flaws but now that i updated to a trusted email, phone service, a new router i have been able to list whatever i want to. If ebay believes you are the account owner then you wont get banned , they will just remove the item. | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 09:31 AM. | |
