Running Linux off of USB 3.0?
 

Have any of you guys have any experience running Linux off of USB 3.0? I tried running Linux mint xfce, which was the light version of Linux off of 2.0 USB stick on an old machine and it was almost undo able, running it off directly through hard drive, yes, but USB no. I like the idea of taking my OS on the go just like those portable apps.

Stick with less resource hog and just stick with portable apps. ****ty devices = ****ty performance.

No direct experience myself but, from what I read, you have 2 major problems:

USB 2.0 is way too slow for that and, Linux mint xfce, might require too much memory/resources than you old machine can provide.

You should try it on a more modern, USB 3.0 machine if you have the chance.

Some old school i7 can be bought off of eBay for like 250 bucks! Cheap and great quality, just that laptop market crashes really fast, so good for consumers. Just curious if that 3.0 USB would run smoothly .

USB 3.0 would most definitely run a bootable Linux Flash drive smoothly. Just as smooth as running it from your hard drive.

USB 3.0 IS SUPER SUPER FAST!

I guess you can switch user accounts in your virtual machines, while you're watching YouTube or something on your host machine.

Yes I run Ubuntu on all my VM's all u really need is Firefox anyways
