Default One internet connection for VMware and one for host?

Has anyone figured this one out yet? I want to see if I can get my high speed internet on the host while using mifi or whatever on the virtual machine. Anyone ever tried it?

I would also be interested in hearing if there is a way around this.

But I dont think its possible. The network adapters are shared between host and VM, so you cant make one exclusive to host and another exclusive to VM. The only way around it would be USB dongle, but thats not exactly a MiFi. I may be wrong, but that's what I have come to find.

You can easily set up two internet connections on the host. Then within the VM, you just configure it to use the Mifi instead of DSL/Cable.

VMWare also allows you to setup multiple network adapters on a VM. So you could feasibly configure both connections within the VM, and choose which one you want to use.

How do u configure it to use mifi instead of dsl? I'm guessing u might need to install a USB wifi adapter if you don't have Ethernet port, so 2 wifi connecting to 2 different wireless connections.

Use Virtual Network Editor, set a custom VMnet to use your MIFI

then edit the vm image to use custom network adapter such as VMnet2 etc

I can imagine this setup with a dozen accounts all logged in at the same time.. all connected to their own VPNs.

A power outage would be a pain but other than that it would make life easier.

Like this but Moar!

Do you still need a separate wifi adapter plugged in to have 2 different connections? I'm trying to use my Mac to connect to my high speed internet, while I use my virtual machine (windows 7) to connect to my Mifi.

No you would just need the one wifi adapter, I do it with just one modem etc

No I meant if you have a modem you can use that internet connection outside of the VMware and at same time designate one VMware to use only MIFI connection instead of your modem

ok, thanks. If you want all your VM connected with wifi at the same time, you need one adaptor for each VM, is that right ?

No if you use a bridged automatic connection, all VM can share same wifi

So, one airport adapter can connect to two different wireless routers? My Mifi, of course is another wireless adapter, along with my cable modem adapter? Are you sure this is possible? Thx.
