[VIDEO] Easy Tutorial how to change your IP Address using a Linksys Router!

Well its been talked about before but here is a video. This is how I learned to easily change My IP address!

I only change the last 2 digits in the mac address and reuse each mac for each ebay/ paypal account!

Here is more info from another post:

By remembering the Random MAC address for which account youve changed the IP address for, you can re-apply the MAC after changing to another one and you will get the same IP address that was previously associated with it.

What you need to do is change the MAC ID for the ROUTER ONLY. The reason why people still get the same IP is because of this. The original MAC ID is located on the bottom of the router so there is no need to copy or write it down if you ever want to revert back to it later.

The first step is to connect your Ethernet cable from your computer to the router so they can communicate and adjust settings. You do not need to do anything with the cable modem at this time. It will be towards the end.

Open up IE (internet explorer) or Firefox and type in your router address, mine is 192.168.0.1 if you don't know it then look in your router manual or cd that came with your router. Or goto the Run command and type in "cmd" and the ipconfig/all and you will see you router address.

Enter your login name/password if you have it set, mine is "admin" which is default. Now the menus is different for each router company. Just find the option that says MAC ADDRESS and click on it or click on manual settings and you should see your MAC ADDRESS. It looks like 6 boxes with 12 numbers and letters in sets. For example 01-5d-b2-42-f1-65

Now you want to change the MAC ADDRESS by doing the following.
Leave the first box the same. You only have to change the other boxes with numbers from 0-9 and letters from a-f but keeping the letters and numbers in the same position and only changing the value for example 01-4b-c5-31-a3-45

After you have replace them click on save settings or apply settings.
You will lose internet connection at this time. Now the final step is to unplug your router and your cable modem for about a minute or so and plug it back in. give it couple minutes to initialize and check your ip at ipchicken.com

You now have a new IP address. Repeat the process to get a new IP address through your router.

Save the MAC address to an excel file that you should have for your IP addresses used per account. When you change your MAC for another account, your IP address will change as well. Saving this will revert back to your other accounts IP address.

This has been done for about two weeks now and is still working flawlessly.

UPDATE: This fix works a good amount of time. The longer span of time between MAC changes, the more risk of not having the same IP as another computer could be assigned to it.

The test was conducted on comcast with a wireless router.

Hi there, I want to ask.

How if I purchase a belkin modem with router port.

Can I also do the same thing? It says it include mac address filtering.

I can't find a separate belkin modem and separate router.

it seems, most of the new products now are modem with router built in.

Please contact me, i really need to learn how to manually assign each @@@@ account with each single different ip.

I am DSL user , Broadband ADSL2+ with IInet. I also wondering if it's safe when I keep changing ip by unplug and plug my modem to get different ip everytime I log in into each account (the same process when you do dial up), can it be linked?

If I keep changing ip when logging in my accounts, is it safe via ebay?

Thanks

Doughboykilla, you can update your router settings page. Under firmware upgrade, if you have a Linksys router. You have to download the upgrade first, which you can find on Google.

Hehe. Doughboykilla could just buy a new modem with all his money:thumb:

My problem is i dont even know what model i got when i bought it i bought it long time ago a good 4 years ago and sence its went out once so i bought another took them both aprt and swtiched the guts then return the new one with the old guts and got my money back so now i got a old case with newer insides and i dont know what version firmware to get for it. Is there any way to tell in the settings on what model or firmware i need?

lakeman 04-10-2009 12:44 PM

It should tell you what firmware version it has on the routers settings page. Mine shows the firmware under status. If you go to your routers website it should tell you the latest firmware for that model.

ebaykilla 04-10-2009 12:53 PM

doughboykilla 04-10-2009 03:04 PM

its a linksys wrt54g wireless

and unplug and pluging back in is so time comsumeing i have to change ips all the time when makeing accounts

lakeman 04-10-2009 09:46 PM

Linksys routers are fairly easy to update, you first find the update online, if there is a newer one then save it. Then you click administration and then firmware upgrade. Or you can just buy a new router. But I would try upgrading it first.

doughboykilla 04-11-2009 11:45 AM

yeah i got the newest firmware for it thats from linksys site unless theres a newer one thats out there thats not on there site.

lakeman 04-11-2009 11:55 AM

That's weird it doesn't have a disconnect/connect button, mine does.

Heres a screenshot of what mine looks like

lakeman 04-11-2009 02:19 PM

Oh, That's because your using obtain IP automatically. Mine is set to PPPoE, I have a Westell Modem. Maybe you could try it on PPPoe and click save settings, and if that doesn't work then switch it back to obtain ip automatically like you have now.
