Thunderbird multiple accounts

hi guys

i use Thunderbird to manage a lot of email accounts . on one computer one ip address. remote images are disabled as default.

if i reply to messages on each account by using the Thunderbird email reply not the message reply will it link them up or is the ip scrambled .

any replies would be gratefully accepted

Re: Thunderbird multiple accounts

At the moment PayPal/Ebay dont look into IP on headers.

However, its easy to do, and can link accounts very quickly.

At the moment, GMAIL reveals IP for email sent using 3rd party clients. Yahoo Mail doesnt.

Your welcome ;)

I cant comment on hotmail/outlook - the last time I used outlook for testing a few years back, I found there was no option to disable images, and outlook allowed images from trusted domains automatically. Not sure if that's changed now though.

If you don't want to reveal your IP then use a VPN/Proxy for your gmails....simple as that...

Re: Thunderbird multiple accounts

As mentioned, this is not something PayPal nor eBay utilise at this time. However, checking the IP in email headers is super easy, takes 30seconds at most. It can even be coded into ebay/paypal's tracking method, and overnight all your accounts could be compromised.

@Empirestate - That doesn't solve the problem. If you use a VPN to reply to thunderbird (or any 3rd party client) mail, you are still using the same IP address, that same IP will be stored in the email header, and eBay/PayPal can use it to link you to your other accounts if you responded to emails for different accounts.

The simple workaround to this is to either use Yahoo mail which at this moment doesn't expose your IP, alternatively reply to GMAIL emails via their website directly as that doesn't expose your IP.

Note - I've spent a lot of time learning about tracking techniques that go way beyond the realms of the stealth guide, and there's no doubt that a large % of these techniques are not being utilised by ebay/paypal now, but its better to be safe than sorry. Ultimately, its your account, your business and the choice is yours to make.

All the best with stealth. :thumb:

Couple of questions.

1. Does merely having multiple email accounts on my iPhone reveal their IPs if I am not replying to the emails? Just purely using it to monitor messages from customers.

2. Would the Gmail app on iPhone conceal IPs as it's not a third party app when using multiple Gmails?

1. Its only when you reply, your IP gets stored in the email headers of the response. So you'll be fine if your just monitoring.

2. I also use the Gmail app, and that works fine.

So Gmail does not reveal your IP even IF you reply?

I was using the iPhones mail app up till now...guess I'll have to revert to gmail. Thanks play

Basically GMAIL doesnt route mail responded to by 3rd party email clients - through their proxy servers. It basically goes from you, to the recipient. Therefore revealing your IP.

But when you use GMAIL's app / online interface, the mail "is" routed via their proxy servers, and so "your" IP isn't revealed, but rather it shows up as Google's IP.

Hope that clarifies your question.
