I think eBay/PP can track your MAC address!
 

Howdy folks,

Few days ago I watched a YouTube video of someone explaining how eBay and PP can track, it mentioned the usual... Name, Email, IP, Cookies, etc.

But he also mentioned that eBay can possibly track your MAC address too!! :shocked:

So what do you guys think we should do? How do you really know if eBay/PP can track your MAC address?

They cant....
Ebay and paypal are about the easiest to stealth and keep separate. Yes, the easiest. Amazon is magnitudes harder and they cant track mac either.

You have several MAC addresses (your NIC, your router ports, your modem) and none of them are transmitted in packets you send over the internet. MAC addresses are used by your local network for routing frames after packets are received from the internet. They are what distinguishes all of the devices connected to your network from each other since all devices on your network have the same public facing IP.

They have the means or ways to check that. But definitely not their 'usual' way of linking your accounts.

MAC is on OSI layer 2.

It CANNOT be tracked or read by eBay, Amazon, or any other website via a browser UNLESS you have some strange extension/plugin that would allow that; it would be highly unusual.

If they could, then we should not operate multiple accounts on one computer, even though with different users.

I also have more than 5 years experience as a network administrator and I agree with you they don't know your MAC

Bar forcing you to use a plugin or software - then the answer is: No, they do not have the means or ways to check mac address.

This topic has been put to bed over and again but just like herpes, it keeps coming back. :thumb:

MAC is at Layer 2 on the OSI model.

This means it's physically not possible for eBay, PayPal, or ANY website to see your MAC or hardware ID's UNLESS you are running specific browser add-on's or software that allows access to that Layer 2 (data layer).

I wonder how these rumors get started? There are other ways of tracking users that are unique, and far more effective that a MAC, or hardware ID. Many websites, including PayPal have long had the capability of using browser canvas (fingerprinting) tech to ID users, but it's unclear if they actually use that tech at this time to link/ban accounts.

last time when i call to paypal,they caught my even name and other real paypal account too.

Perhaps if your "odd" name had not attempted to escape, they might not have caught on to the even one.
