Very hard to answer really.

Cheap items usually do the trick

I sell guitar pics/plectrums. I buy a load from China spend 10£ then list them up in lots of 20 and sell them for 99p free postage. You loose the ten pound you invested in the plectrums but postage and fees just about covered. 9 out of ten leave feedback. Then with the money in PayPal I start buying 1p auction stuff. Just for feedback and PayPal/eBay see money is moving and all is going well. Still take your time n don't rush.

hard back books is super low risk item but bad seller.

Personally, i always and only do digital items that are not high risk.
Im not going to say what they are, but ive sold these items for 10 years now while building account and ebay and paypal never have any issues with limitations.
Also never get buyer complaints.
Im an expert selling digital products so you have to know how to list, when to list and how to handle buyers.
ebay fees are so cheap too and paypal take in micro transactions, so its a win win.
currently i have around 15 ebay accounts between 1-7 month old, selling the same item.
