Ebay is Port Scanning visitors to their website INTRO
Researcher Jack Rysider found that when you enter eBay using Microsoft's Edge browser, the marketplace starts to scan 14 computer ports. At the same time, scanning bypasses the firewall, as it is carried out from the browser. The results are naturally transmitted to eBay.
The discussion on this subject developed in earnest. Someone says that anti-cheat applications for games do the same. Someone recalls that similar questions were already raised by David Jacobi five years ago. Someone comments that one of the scanned ports is used by TeamViewer and wonders why eBay needed such information.
Through collective efforts, it turned out that port scanning takes place in Edge and Chrome. At the same time, Tor, Opera and uBlock block it. Firefox and Brave are in doubt.
Naturally, eBay does not show any disclaimers and warnings. The news spread across the industry, the press began to ask eBay questions, so we will wait for answers. Nice post by Dan Nemec about ebay port scanning, browser fingerprinting, and LexisNexis ThreatMetrix https://blog.nem.ec/2020/05/24/ebay-port-scanning/
