What caused this eBay Alert?

I got a new computer and transferred my firefox portable folder from my old computer. Logged into my account with all usual cookies etc. A while later ebay emailed me saying they changed my password for potential unauthorized activity.

what do you think they picked up on? Just the fact that its not the usual device? I didnt think that would be enough for such an alert. This was the message

We wanted to let you know that your eBay account has been secured because your login information may have been used without your permission. We understand that this could be concerning, but your account and personal information are safe. Your eBay password was reset to make sure no one can access your account but you.*

What's your source of IP?

once in a while I get this too, this is actually a very good question. This message seems to be 1 step before a suspension. Like a orange light then red. Go easy on this account now for a while.

It's probably just because your profile's user agent changed when you switched computers.

Thats what I was thinking, I wasnt sure if the user agent modifies when transferring firefox portable though. Is it wise to user agent spoofer? if they get that much info from the user agent string then im sure that enough to link accounts, no?

Spoofing the user agent makes you look bad in my opinion. That's not something a legitimate seller would ever need to do.

As for what changed, it could have been a bunch of different things. Different OS, different screen resolution, different installed fonts, etc. I don't think you have anything to worry about at this point though.

Well it's obvious, you changed computer so they think your account has been hijacked.

I like to log into the account from both computers with the same IP then that often solves the issue

How do they know if someone is spoofing the user agent string?

This is true. I always remember seeing that message on some aged accounts before a suspension.

friend it is probably due to computer switching that leads to change automatically your user agent profiles.
