EBay app on iPhone

Hi,

I know apps on smartphones collect lots of information.

EBay could probably use this info to uniquely identify devices and track accounts via this.

Is anybody actually aware of them doing this?

I realise it’s probably not the wisest thing to do but can anybody definitely say whether having had a banned account that used the eBay app on an iPhone would cause subsequent accounts that used the same iPhone (with a fresh install of the app) to be linked to that account (assuming even the IP address had been changed)

Any insight appreciated

Nobody here can confirm that a clean installation of the app can be used without the possibility of being linked to a previous installation on the same phone or categorically confirm that it go them banned.

It is best to assume a link can be made. If a link can be made, regardless of whether we know they act on it or not, then the principles of stealth say you should not do it.

the answer is yes. I recently called my bank as I needed to release a blocked payment and they asked me whether iphone model xx with name xx of my icloud account belong to me

Yes they can

Its one of the reasons the APP cannot be reused on a phone that its already been banned on.

Agreed, I never I use the app on my phone unless it is a completely brand new phone.

I'm not sure what this has to to with the ebay app but if Apple shared details of my account with a third party beyond Apple Pay and a bank thought it was there place to ask for icloud details I'd hit the roof.

Anyone got a link to confirm Apple and banks have this kind of data sharing permission?

IPHONES share a lot of data , for example when I connect my iphone to my wi-fi and then share this wi-fi with my computer from my iphone the settings of computer show my name as internet connection owner , it literally shows "name's iphone" , that alone would be enough to identify the phone for anyone who has back office access to one of the apps installed there and the name comes directly from the name I saved as name on my icloud account

Thanks all, the positive reports of apple linking the device ID with multiple accounts is enough to stop me even considering it.

Appreciate the expert advice :)
