National insurance number - think it will link accounts?

know it's early days but any ideas if National insurance number will link accounts, all my accounts went down towards the end of last year and I've managed to make a few that are going well and all unlinked, I pay all my taxes, vat etc but still really wanted to be sure if 1 account goes down the others don't, I'm worried now, all my accounts have been asked for NI numbers this week and I don't know if all my efforts to keep accounts separate is for nothing. Also if banned on an account with NI number submitted will that mean not being able to create an account with your real NI number

Honestly we don't yet know

In the US though a SSN can be used across accounts without issue sometimes. So if that is an indication it should be OK. Only time will really tell though

it is unlikely ebay would allow two or more people to use the same NI number

Thanks for the replies, all accounts are real details, name, dob, bank, 2 different address, everything else separate. Cheers

If the details are all real then what's the issue with providing Nation Insurance Number?

If he's unlucky enough to be banned again would all the accounts get linked via N.I was his question.

Also this may be off topic it appears only accounts made this year are being asked for N.I ?

Has anyone with an old account been asked yet because eBay did say from 2025 they will start collecting N.I on old accounts but everyone said that can't be right.

Can I have the link for that please as I haven't heard that. I read at some point they will start to collect the info. No date was stated.

And yet they used to allow bank accounts to be used by as many accounts as wanted

Best to wait and see if its possible first

It was discussed on the eBay boards. And then eBay updated that paragraph but it appears they are still sticking to their original plan and will be reporting new accounts in Jan next year and then by the end of the next year all legacy accounts on eBay that exceed the thresholds will be required to provide their nino. Makes sense as they made it clear that when the SSN was implemented in the USA it had such a negative effect on eBay. They are clearly trying to reduce that effect with the implementation of N.I and HMRC reporting by giving their old members a grace period who will no doubt be familiar with selling and their tax obligations anyway and obviously be eBay's main earners still making good profits for eBays shareholders.

I'm sure HMRC are also giving eBay a chance to get things in order as it's a collosal task no doubt.

I know we have the rest of the year to go but I've exceeded the threshold on a old legacy account and still haven't been asked to provide nino on it.

That's not exactly correct. Ebay worded it very badly. As I posted on here some time ago. HMRC are giving a grace period to all marketplaces on when they have to gather the info for existing sellers. It isn't an ebay thing.
