- CHANGING IP on WINDOWS 7 >NO ROUTER<

Hi,

on a W7 64 bits setup,

anyone was able to switch ips with the usual tips given here?

If I use a router I can do it - however if direct connection the procedure
will not work and I to do it like that-

(will release, change, but renew to the same IP)

Im sure this is something different about the SO that keeps you from doing that.

Thanks

Have you searched the 'IP Config' command on Google?

Depends on the type of IP you have - if it's static, it normally works by reconnecting your modem or router, and if it's dynamic, then the 'ip config' command should change it...

Try taking out the lead in your modem and sticking back it - or even the phone line?

Hope that helps.

hello, ipconfig is used to release the ip, in my setup its not good just renewing, I would get the same ip. You have to do a forced change of IP through the windows control panel, TCP protocol

I do it on W7, but doesnt work like in XP, gets me the previous IP..

So your PC is directly connected to your Cable or DSL modem? If so, you need to google for some info on how to change or "spoof" the MAC address on your PC.

You should then be able to:

1 - Release the DHCP or PPPOE session by logging into your modem
2 - Change the MAC address on your PC
3 - Reboot the modem
4 - Bingo! New IP!

That is, of course, unless your ISP is giving you a static IP, which it doesn't sound like they are if you are able to change it sometimes and not others.

Yes! it worked; just changing last digits to the MAC address (no dhcp release needed), apply changes, then reboot modem and new ip... to go back to older ip I enter old mac address. thanks!
