Internet drops after cloneing MAC any one else have this problem?

Over the past 5 months the internet has always droped when cloning my mac address. It started out as soon as i changet he MAC and hit save and then reboot my modem and refreash my DCHP to get a new ip then i get the new ip and its all good then about 1 min later the internet stops and cable light flashs a bit then comes back on then i have to renew ip again. Then about 2 weeks ago it started doing this about 10 mins after renewing ip then bam interent stops and i have to renew ip again and sometimes this happens in middle of makeing stuff and it gets highly annyoing. So far i bought a new modem and a new linksys router and still have the same problem. I cant contact the cable Co. about it cause they will be like (Why are u changeing the ip in the first place) and start asking a bunch of ?'s. So im wonder out of all you other clone mac'ers here have u had such a problem with your internet?

How do you clone your Mac address? Maybe it's linksys? I find linksys routers to be huge pains sometimes.

it has a opition in it where it says clone mac address its very simple to do. I have never used any other router before.

I will unplug my router leve it unpluged then unplug my modem and repower it then if it still dose it then that will rule out it begin the router.

Also i noticed after i do about 10-15 mac clones the router gets all screwey and wont even work then i have to hold in that small reset back to defualt button just to get it to work again. I had to do this on both linksys routers i owned every sence i started cloning macs.

You may want to invest in a netgear.. great little routers.

Linksys are POS, IMHO. :)

after my btching about internet dropping all the time my ISP gose tuesday morn and decides to do a firmware update and now every time i clone my mac address and swap ips it takes 15 dam mins just to reboot :ahhhhhh:

If only there was a way to clone the mac w/o resetting the modem

Hmmm...makes me wonder too and I was just about to purchase a Linsys router off ebay and follow the tutorial video on Youtube to change IP for each account.

How about getting multiple routers and changing them each time you want to use an account? Would that give you a different IP? and save the hassle of manually changing and unplugging the modem each and everytime?

Im not sure i dont think u can clone macs on each router and get new ip's Sure wish Vic was here he would know the answare to this.

Your internet probly wouldnt have any problems its just my internet here it worked fine the past 2-3 years.

you can use Mac Makeup ver1.9d and change your mac address u dont need a router but i cant seem to find any tutorial's on it though but it seems ez to use

Yeah, Vic would sure know the answer but I remember reading a post from someone that said that they have a few Linksys routers dedicated 1 for each account and they just switch routers when using certain accounts and they get a different IP.
Just want to make sure. I'll probably just buy 2 or 3 Linksys off ebay and try it myself. It'll sure beat the hassle of changing IP on 1 router each time and unplugging and plugging all the time.

yeah i will check into it but im 100% sure u have to reset the modem cause when u clone your mac address and reset the modem it forces the isp to issue u a new ip address. But if u clone just mac address between 2 routers i dont see how it would force the isp to give u a new ip address.

i got 2 routers a veriozn one i paid 6 bucks free ship for and a linksys i will hook them togather and see what happens

aspkin 03-05-2010 07:10 PM

Yeah, you need to reset your modem as well. :(

Maybe it's time for a new ISP doughboykilla.
