This Forum is About eBay Tracking

This forum was created specifically to talk about eBay tracking. EBay tracks you in a number a sophisticated ways. If you have eBay cookies on your machine, and you go to eBay your Ip address will be linked to an account. If you do this for multiple accounts without cleaning your cookies, this will link accounts together. Using the same password on multiple accounts can link you. Using Paypal with multiple accounts can link you. Using unique domain names for image hosting can do it too. EBay tracks you and links your accounts together in many ways. When you know what eBay does to track you, you'll be able to protect your self in the future. Learn more and ask questions on this forum, we'll try to help.

Keep a helpful and relaxed environment please.

Good luck!

HI- Yes, Surprisingly, I have had Ebay track me by using the same Password, on several accts.. I also lost a Paypal acct because of this same reason.

ivegotinfo 12-24-2007 04:59 PM

thats why i make my passwords a variation of my log-in name
and store everything in a gigantic exel file.

aspkin 12-24-2007 08:06 PM

Lol, these are my type of passwords all saved in excel:

aa651c5ea514
fbre654fcea941
a5e4g4d646q
CEW4f546ec5
C54e6aec45ef
Be4654f3qa1f

Just random numbers and letters. :)

Use Robo form. It saves the passwords for you and automatically fills in your data when you go to a website. It also generate passwords for you.

RoboForm: Password Manager, Form Filler, Password Generator, Fill & Save Forms

Does anyone know anything about "web beacons" that ebay uses? I think they use these nasties within their logos(images) within emails from them.

loveandhate 12-27-2007 12:33 PM

ccleaner all day every day. call me paranoid, but i clean everytime i switch a webpage. i try not to open emails, but when i have 20 questions on an item, it gets kind of tempting, any suggestions to get around the tracking?

ebayisanecessaryevil 12-31-2007 05:44 PM

I download my aol email into outlook express, and view everything from ebay using "view message source"

I lost half my names the beginning of Dec due to beacons and opening email. Since using this to view my email, it's been smooth everr since.

Hi, I have 2 questions regarding tracking:

1. If I sign up a new PP with ⊗⊗⊗⊗ info, and a new email account that's dedicated to use with this new PP and new EB account... can I read my email on the same computer that I read my real email account?

2. Can I still use my old PP on the same computer without being tracked? The PP account was never limited / suspended. But it was linked to my suspended EB account.

Thanks in advance.

GreenBean 02-19-2008 10:24 PM

I would not risk doing that. You could/can make a mistake and sign in with
old password account etc.
As for question 2, see answer above. Do not give ebay or paypal ANY trail.
From posts here, there are changes regularly so avoid traps.

I would love to do that. AOL email is a real pain.

Could you explain how to do that and could you just use Outlook Express and set up your AOL email in it?

koalawash 02-19-2008 10:39 PM

Just use Gmail and images are disabled by default.

I need to find out how much I owe on ebay, is says I owe close to $300, but im almost positive its incorrect. Is there any way to contact ebay and not have them put cookies on my computer? I just need to find out how much I owe and when to pay by. You can pm with answer please. Thanks.

new ip?

if i use ccleaner and reset the modem to get a new ip i can not even check my real emails or the ebay/paypal account?
also when i reset the modem and go to ipchicken it shows a different ip, but in my network connection(in control panel) like ip adress, nothing change, it is somenthing wrong ?

Leotta 03-18-2010 06:23 AM

Ebay doesnt just use standard cookies to track you. It uses Embedded Flash cookies too and a few other methods. Just clearing your cookies wont be enough.

To clear your flash cookies go to the page Adobe - Flash Player : Settings Manager - Website Storage Settings panel

There are many other ways they track you, that are more complex than many reasons listed here. I will try and list them ASAP

sorry seen you had a section for this !

No it will not. Verizon shows you're in Kansas for example. As long as the ip is stealth, as in it's different for each time you access a different account, you're fine.

jbluntz 03-28-2010 07:03 PM

Here's my passwords:

ebaysucks1
ebaysucks2
ebaysucks3...
..................
ebaysucks100

real easy to remember.

oge 03-29-2010 12:59 AM

LOL yea one of my passwords use to be: fupaypal1234
They made me change it saying that my account was access by a 3rd party. I always wonder if they can see the password or not?

First Edition 03-29-2010 10:10 AM

I believe they can, and I believe they track based on many behaviors, such as related to passwords.

Ghost 04-04-2010 12:17 AM

First Edition is right, passwords are one of the things they can use to link you.
