Default WARNIING ebay may use this method to track you down!!!

i dunno if anyone knows but i heard that you can get traced by your CPU number and the CPU number is unchangeable. so if ebay does use this method to ban you by your CPU number the only way to be clean to buy another CPU. but im not sure this is true so you guys may want to google it. if is true how much would that suck lolz....

Ebay only tracks you by IP address, and internet cookies. Not your mac address, or any other computer details.

Is it at all possible that they COULD, at some point in the future? Why wouldn't this be any less feasible a tracking method than the crazy stuff they do now?

I think they might use it now. A friend of mine can't list anything on her old "haunted' computer. Each time she does - no matter what she lists .. she's linked to an ID that she didn't pay her bill on. She CAN have a buyer ID on it - but not a seller ID at all. Very strange.

Yeah they could but not without an activeX software installed on your computer. Since these kind of programs work with IE and maybe Firefox you would have to use Opera or Seamonkey. That would be easy to get through!

Default Just a thought

Wouldn't that mean that Ebay would have had to have been using that system for a while?

I mean if they can link you to older accounts and the thought was that they were only previously tracking IP addresses -- how could they tie your MAC addy to a current account and supposedly know it also ties to an older account?

Thumbs down

I had my bank block my account for a month in case those *******s try to pull another fast one with the illegal ****ing charge-backs. What a joke of website. A sick joke perpetuated on the small business man. Spy ware.

I'd like to charge into their office and empty the water cooler all over their computers and short circuit the place.

Ebay would need Java and then they'd need you to have the right java version (as too old or too new won't work), then they need an operating-system specific java add-on that is extremely hard to program. Oh and of course this only works with signed java applets. Even if ebay tries that, there's always some computer program that can spoof it. Second Life was banning people based on hardware and a trolling group called "The Patriotic Nigras" (that's their name sorry if offensive--google their name) got around those bans somehow.

That's total crap. They can't track anything else than cookies and IPs. If your friend keeps getting linked, she doesn't clear her cookies or doesn't change her IPs.

Again, that's crap. They can't do that with what they have on eBay at this time. I've worked in the IT industry for nearly 10 years, believe me when I tell you this. They can't get your hardware information just like they can't tell what stickers you have on the front of your DVD writer.

I've run 2 accounts on the same computer many times, one using IE the other getting in through aol proxy...they've never been linked (that way at least) of course clearing cookies when going from one to the other
I had my one active selling account get shut down over night, but that was due to paypal wanting more information.
Screw them, ebay is left holding the bag for almost 2k in fees for the last month

I want to share my experience, last month i had 3 accounts banned the same day. Ebay is tracking the MAC address of your network adapter, be it wireless or cable. I had been running auctions on these accounts for a few months and always clear cookies and have a vast variety of networks in my area to go out and hop on someones unsecured wireless network. So I use the same IP for every account (the IP that i created the account on) and always clear everything. It worked fine until that recent change. I tested this new MAC changing software on 3 more accounts, using the same IP as the account was created, but changing the MAC address. So far so good.
