READ THIS If You Have A Cable Modem - IP ADDRESS

I wanted to share with everyone a way you can switch between mutliple IP addresses with a cable modem. You can record these IP addresses for each account and then as you switch between accounts, you can actually force your modem to that accounts IP address!! eBay loves it when you constantly log in with the same IP address!!

Ok, first of all, you have to have a direct connect modem to computer. If you have a router, there is a more complicated method of doing this, but I will post it later. Anyways, so assuming you have a direct connect, do the following:

1) Go to the start menu, click on run and type CMD
2) Type in IPCONFIG
3) That is the current IP address (assuming you dont have a routed hooked up)
4) Now you are going to type IPCONFIG/RELEASE
5) You will be disconnected from the internet --- Go to Start menu, My Network Places, Click on Network Connections in the left menu, Right click on your internet connection (It may be Local Area Connection, something to that affect)...anyways, right click and select properties
6) Now select Internet Protocal (TCP/IP) and select properties
7) Choose Use the following IP address and type in the following:
IP ADDRESS: 192.168.11.100
Then just click on the Subnet Mask and it will fill it in
8) Next Click OK to close that window and then OK on the other window
9) It will take a couple seconds and then once you are able to, click back on properties for the Internet Protocal (TCP/IP) and select Obtain An IP Address Automatically
10) Click OK and OK to close those windows and now go back to the CMD prompt and type in ipconfig/all
11) As you will see, the IP has changed!!!
12) Now this is the COOL part, you can copy that information (you will need IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and the DNS Servers) and mark it down for one of your eBay accounts.....When you want to go back to that IP, you just go back to the properties section of the Internet Protocal (TCP/IP) and type in all of that information that you wrote down...BOOM....you are at that IP again (dont believe me, then go to Find My IP Address - Lookup)
13)You can easliy switch between IPs this way and you dont even have to unplug the modem!!!!

Let me know if you have any questions!! GOOD LUCK!!! (PS -- lets make this a sticky!!)

This is possibly the coolest thing i have ever read!!!!!

MrJosh 01-22-2008 08:02 PM

pretty cool huh! This is the best way to beat the ebay system----they can tell when an ip is, lets say roadrunner, and if you log in with the same roadrunner IP everytime for a certain account, they will think you are pretty secure....and it drastically lowers the probs of your accoutn being linked to another

how about dsl. Great post

MrJosh 01-22-2008 08:05 PM

I cannot wait to hear what you do for a router!!!

MrJosh 01-22-2008 08:12 PM

I will post about the router tommorrow---its a little more complicated, so i'm going to see if there are any work-arounds to some things.

ebayhateluv 01-22-2008 08:16 PM

Yes, Josh, and Remember, I am a Freshman at the School for PC for Dummies..
so, NO verbage like switch your mac attack and then go into the motherboard to route the cable, then out the router into the command prompt for some ip thingie..... PLEASE.. :))

MrJosh 01-22-2008 08:18 PM

lol -- hhahaha---ok, i will try my best!

californiadreamer 01-22-2008 08:23 PM

yes, I agree with ebayhateluv I just realized today I have a modem and router together (its one unit) had no idea until today!

aspkin 01-22-2008 09:39 PM

Great post, neat little trick.

You can basically do the same thing with a router. Because a router retains the ip address, it's harder to switch. So telling the router what to retain will make the modem follow. Or something like that. Whenever I need to switch IPs I just reset my modem first then go through the router wizard to capture that IP for me. But that's just me.

Good post MrJosh, this will help someone.

coolandcalm 01-22-2008 10:56 PM

BRAVO!! MrJosh, great work, just tried it, worked just as instructed. Wonder how many different IP's you can obtain this way? Unlimited? Possibilities..Possibilities

sherrykosborn 01-22-2008 11:02 PM

MrJosh 01-23-2008 09:04 AM

It won't work for a router - I will post today on how to accomplish this with a router.

bbcoach 01-23-2008 12:13 PM

wow, that worked great, I need to see how it will work with a router, Can't wait to see the post.

thelizardking 01-23-2008 01:42 PM

MrJosh, thanks this is the only thing that has worked so far for my cable modem. Awesome job.

I have DSL at my girls and I just unplug the usb and power from the modem for about a minute and reconnect. Changes everytime but im not sure how to make it so you can pick a specific IP. Try the way MrJosh said and see if it works for DSL too.

ebayhateluv 01-23-2008 01:55 PM

FYI- One thing that makes it Easy enough for someone like me to do-is the way it was Presented. -- An easy, step by step as if he were there.. (Im thinking Modee may have told us this last summer, but I couldn't follow it). So,its been offered here before, But not for the PC Dummy !)

super stealth 01-26-2008 01:11 PM

This is great for getting new ip's....but i cant get my my comcast modem to use the old ips .....anyone have any ideas on what im doing wrong??

I go back into INTERNET PROTOCAL (TCP/IP)

TYPE IN MY OLD IP, SUBNET MASK, DEFAULT GATEWAY& DNS SERVERS.

I PRESS OK AND AND CLOSE OUT THE WINDOWS.

I TYPE IN IPCONFIG/ALL AND EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED BUT I CANNOT CONNECT TO THE INTERNET .

coolandcalm 01-27-2008 11:07 AM

I am having the same problem, i think it has something to do with the cable lease date, the new IP is only good for 1-3 days then they cannot be accessed, maybe mrjosh or someone can post here how to change the lease date

MrJosh 01-27-2008 11:42 AM

Chances are that your ISP has assigned that IP to another user...what you can do it just change the last 3 digits plus or minus 1
