What is better for IP Protection, VPN or Dial Up?

I am in the US and I have a dynamic IP with At&t.

I can change my IP address by unplugging but that takes up too much time.

I know that dial up will work but...

I perfer a VPN because it can mask my IP and it will be alot easier to connect with.

If I use a vpn, will it rasie a red flag to ebay or will I be ok?

GreenBean 12-24-2010 09:21 PM

Others will say they are OK. However having dealt with many users here, VPN is not recommend.

Now there's going to be a chorus from others about how great they are. I agree they are good but since the question was 'If I use a VPN will it raise a red flag to ebay or will I be OK, then my answer is still NO. We are not even mentioning paypal whose hatred of VPNs is horrendous.

Where does that leave a user thinking of a VPN who is based in the USA? They are lucky as they have many choices. Wireless card, thethering thro' cell phone or for some a simple change of ISP providers.

Actually in your case, your IP is not that easily changed even though it is declared to be dynamic. You also would have the option to change MAC address, use a new router.Other ways are better for ability to be stealth
But to use a VPN, not my recommendation :peace:

So, simply unplugging my modem and verifying a change to my ip with ip burger is not enough to confirm that I have ACTUALLY changed my IP address?

Its a pain, but thats the best route you have. After awhile its just becomes part of the process and you don't get too bothered by the reboot times.

As long as you refresh the page it will be all right. If you use firefox get a plugin that puts ip in bottom corner. But it needs to be refreshed or reloaded as well. Dont get too worried with speed and convenience. Thats when we make simple mistakes...

As a matter of interest have you tried doing that when posting here? Yours is a sticky IP and I dont think it always changes when the modem gets unplugged.

eta: No way will your IP change. I checked. Yours is static.....:tears: Look at

What Is My IP Address? Lookup IP, Hide IP, Change IP, Trace IP and more... or Locate IP Address Lookup Show on Map City of the IP 70.86.19.42

Either URL will give you a definition of your IP :spy:

I just unplugged my IP and it changed again. It is not static. I checked it on both websites. What made you think it was static?

GreenBean 12-25-2010 07:13 AM

use What Is My IP Address? Lookup IP, Hide IP, Change IP, Trace IP and more... again and read the 6th line when you enter your IP.
assignment: STATIC

It's confusing, especially as up until you signed off and turned off the modem, your IP for every post had been the same.(a total of 35 posts) So that plus the comment of broadband & assignment Static was merited. I alluded to the fact it may be a sticky IP and slow to change. This is must be the case. :peace:

Yeah, I did not change me IP since I have been here, I have not been using any stealth accounts.

I see that is said static, but I thought that a static IP would not change if you unplugged it?

That is why I considered it dynamic.

My IP will change everytime I unplug it so I am good to go as far as chaning my IP is concerned, despite it being stated as a static IP on theat site, right?

Thanks

If you are getting anew IP don't worry that the site says its static. Its not.
