FREE VPN to change your IP instantly

AnchorFree

It's free VPN software you can download for Windows or Mac. The service is ad-supported, with banner ads showing at the top of each new Web page a user opens.

The vpn generates a new IP address for you every time you connect so you can't keep a single IP like a traditional vpn. It's useful program if you want to create ebay or Paypal accounts on the fly that have different IP addresses for each account.

Oh, you are going to have such a big surprise when you meet Modee, big surprise.

well, unless Modee or someone else can proof to me that VPNs don't work with ebay... I'd say: thank you north1125 for the link! I'll try it.
As far as I know VPNs are not being detected by websites like ebay, unlike proxies.

stabilo66 03-23-2008 06:35 PM

nice info, thanks

anybody tried it already?

I guarantee you will get the same message I got: Suspected proxy server or network sharing device.

thats the only one of your little tests that seem to detect the vpn. point taken, Modee.
I tried the other tests and several othe IP-check websites and it said everywhere "proxy - no / false". whatismyipaddress seems to be bit different, probably because they also detect "network sharing devices", whatever this means...
anyway, i'm using witopia successfully so far, will keep you informed if / when i get suspended....

Yea, but Steve...ebay probably has a much more advanced system than that website, so will almost certainly pick up the proxy. And that will simply ring alam bells. Why would an average ebay user need to sign in under a proxy?

1. its not a proxy
2. for security reasons
3. and you also don't know if it is possible to have a more advanced system...

north1125 03-24-2008 05:34 PM

Would private VPNs that charge a monthly fee be any better than this then? With private VPNs, wouldn't you be assigned your own unique and dedicated IP address that wouldn't change like it does with this program.

TotallyDisgusted 03-24-2008 06:19 PM

I am using SmartHide -- the free version & yes, I can use the same IP address for 1 eb account and then choose a 2nd IP for another EB account. Just have to jot down what address to use when signing-in with all these accounts.

Can't swear for the program...yet. So far, I have been able to creatd eb & pp accounts and no problems w/listing items when using the program.

north1125 03-24-2008 06:26 PM

I think with the free smarthide is that everyone uses the same 5 or so IP addresses so all ebay has to do is ban those IPs.

Could you post or pm one the IPs available so we can compare?

No I don't, but we already know there is software out there to prove it's a proxy.

I know what you mean Modee, I've also read and participated in the other thread about VPNs a couple of weeks ago...

1. geobytes/iplocator does NOT detect my vpn as proxy
2A proxyserverprivacy does NOT detect my vpn as proxy
2B proxyserverprivacy does indeed give a real city name
3. geobytes/iplocator gives also a real city name

tests passed
but i know, this still doesn't have to say anything.

just a different question: say ebay can indeed identify that my IP is coming from a VPN or Proxy, would they then also be able to identify my REAL IP ?

has no one got an answer to that ??

TotallyDisgusted 03-30-2008 02:11 PM

Can't really answer your question...curious about the answer myself. I can say that I have been using evaluation version of SmartHide for 2-weeks now, switching between my real ip for 1 eb/pp account & using smarthide for 2nd eb/pp account. During registration for eb using smarthide, I was asked for cc...was not asked using my own ip. Other than that, no problems, no red-flags thus far. Will let you know as time marches on.

doughboykilla 03-30-2008 04:36 PM

Ebay asked for cc when your register a new account if your useing a Free email such as yahoo or hotmail or if the ips matchs one to another ebay id so eather you used a free email and got the cc page or your ip was already used on ebay under another id.

TotallyDisgusted 03-30-2008 04:51 PM

I am using gmail so that checks and I suppose the possibility of others using that ip is very strong.

doughboykilla 03-30-2008 05:29 PM

I downloaded smarthide cant get it to do anything when i change my ip and click go invisable it trys to make me pay for it but wont work on free for changeing my ip >:(

but i bet the 5 ips are the same for every one
i could post them here to see

stepia 03-30-2008 05:50 PM

Can you choose a city of your IP when you are using VPN? If the service gives you a random IP in a random city, it's no good because your IP must correspond with the registered eBay address.

TotallyDisgusted 03-30-2008 05:59 PM

No, I can't choose the city but can choose a few in the USA. Yes, you are right that it would make no sense to choose an ip in the middle of the Country when you registered on the west coast. All I can say is that I did register an account in city X...my ip says city y and I did register an account, listed items, sold items & received payment with EB. Go figure...probably just a matter of time.

Ebay cant ban some one cause the ip dose not match the city cause people travel all the time and use internet all other the us to do there ebaying

ebaysucksthebigone 04-02-2008 08:04 AM

yeah thats what i was thinking, i mean fair enough if a ip constantly changes then it can cause a problem, but what happens to people when they travel and connect to ebay using different isp's ? what would happen if i created my account in australia, but i moved to usa and connected there again ? if my account was to be temporarily limited and they asked for verification like a phone number then i guess its ok, but there is no chance the account would be permanently suspended no way, would it ?

if i have a few proxies in the same country and they are transparent and in IPLOCATOR do not come up as proxies, is that ok ?

i know modee might go off his head saying that proxies cannot be used but im trying to delve deeper into this situation instead of ruleing it out as i still believe proxies can be used but it just depends on which ones and how you choose to use them.

cheers

Slavaja 04-02-2008 08:16 AM

from what i heard is that if you pay for the good proxy they will work
