Can I be tracked by PayPal when opening emails?

I am super paranoid at the mo. I have only just managed to get a live account and have actually made some sales wooohoo!! Thank you aspkin.com!! I don't want to lose this one - but also I want to try to make things as easy to manage as possible.

I have a separate gmail account for the new live ebay act which is then forwarded to my regular hotmail act. My question is, and I'm not sure if it has been answered although I think it has in regards to ebey, can I be tracked or linked if I open the messages with the "payment received blah! messages from PP. I want to get the address of the customer out of it. That would be when I am using my regular everyday IP not when I am in "stealth mode".

I know I could just play it safe and switch user accounts and change IP's - but if someone could advise if it is safe to go in a look at the messages from PP without any worries that would be great!

I am all up for experimenting to see what works - but I don't want to lose this account, especially as I am finally back on track...for now...

Cheers!!!

I'm not sure about Hotmail but Gmail is good if you don't display images

Thanks for the reply GT - I use Gmail, but to be honest I find it really really slow. I dunno why, but I think it has something to do with the whole China hacking Google saga (Google Hacked the Chinese Hackers Right Back). Sometimes google is totally down for days at a time over here too which is a real pain.

That was one of the reasons for forwarding to Hotmail - cos it is usually more reliable and faster.

Maybe I should make a new thread - buy what about desktop based clients? Any recommendations for any that can also block pictures as standard?

Thanks :)

No, they can't track you on this way))) It's a really funny. It's the dream of all services to track you by such ways...

opening the email itself NO. Responding, some say yes, some say no. I avoid both.

Why do you need to write from your e-mail box to PayPal or eBay? In most of the cases (90%) it's simply impossible that's why it out of the question.
Moreover, when you're using OpenVPN connection your asking the mail server not via your ISP.
So this not so scary)))

I had a account limited and the only thing I could think of is I opened an email when not logged into that user account

Just as a follow up to this I have started using thunderbird which blocks pictures (ie beacons) as standard just like gmail can.
