Control Panel / User Accounts

craigoaus 04-15-2008 09:17 PM

I think this has a lot to do with the thread, assuming the thread discusses the new eBay policy. What I am wondering is perhaps eBay is not going to relate a computer to an account not by ip address or cookies but by a computers serial number. I mention Equinax iSale as it is proof that it is possible for a third party to obtain a computers serial number. Even using a different user account on the computer does not change the serial number. I hope I am dead wrong and it (referencing to a particular computer) will be as said earlier here based on cookies etc...but if I was running eBay I'd be going for the computer serial number (which is obviously very easy to do) pretty hard to get around that other than having a different computer.

thelizardking 04-15-2008 09:29 PM

It won't be the serial number, most likely just changing users on your PC should suffice, or using Auctiva...but we'll have to wait and see...we can tell more when it starts happening...shouldn't worry too much cause we will find a way around it

craigoaus 04-15-2008 10:08 PM

Hope you're right, I have been following the advice from you guys here for some time now with no problems so as you say its a matter of wait and see...

craigoaus 04-15-2008 10:18 PM

Well Modee if you are right and I hope you are I owe you a beer...:-)

aspkin 04-16-2008 04:33 AM

Modee is right most of the time; it'll be interesting to see what eBay plans to do next. Anticipation ignites… You guys should probably start hording new eBay accounts before eBay becomes even more radical.

Concerning creating multiple users on Firefox, I don't see the Control Panel anywhere on Firefox, am I using the right browser:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.13) Gecko/20080311 Firefox/2.0.0.13

Sounds like a plan except...

every time I used Auctiva, that account got suspended.

ebay-sucks 04-16-2008 09:35 PM

Sorry, I do not use firefox.

mantisinc 04-17-2008 06:05 AM

Download it then!

On this tracking question: how does it work that on my laptop I run ccleaner on turning off and on opening - yet I go to this forum and am recognized (don't have to sign in)? Is it the IP address?

GreenBean 04-18-2008 01:45 AM

WOW. Maybe it is the bribe money you are paying aspkin. Man, I am sooo jealous, I gotta
sign in every time. ROFLOL.

Arh, actually I hope aspkin will give you a correct answer.

Notice eBay is using flash objects, too. Beware of that seller dashboard as it's all flash.

ebay-sucks 04-18-2008 07:13 AM

Martisinc
If you are referring to my post I was telling someone above that I do not use it. I did atone time but Firefox slowed my computer down to a crawl and I got rid of it.

GreenBean 04-18-2008 07:19 AM

xxsucks, I found that after I installed firefox everything was faster. As well as hating paypal
I am not so fond of Bill Gates so I try to avoid microsoft & IE.
But I guess we are all different. LOL.

mantisinc 04-18-2008 12:25 PM

Ah okay ebay-sucks. But I agree with greebean, firefox is fab, I'd reccomend it to anyone.

As a companion to the question above:

Using AOL 7, I run ccleaner, then start to type a web address in the www bar of AOL 7, and it auto fills the address. How does this happen if the cookies/beacons are gone and the IP shown is proxy (according to IPBURGER.COM)?

imjustme 04-18-2008 03:34 PM

I doubt they check user agents. A browser upgrade would mess with that and from now to June, most people will probably update their browsers.

mantisinc 04-18-2008 03:45 PM

Personally, I think eBay should just ban new users when they try and list their second item. Would save them loads of time messing with user cookies, IP's and user agents :D

ebayaintstupid 04-18-2008 04:07 PM

I think they may already be...

doing just that.

Van Player 04-18-2008 06:00 PM

thats because the auto complete is not part of the cookies you deleted.. its built into the browser itself.

try logging out of AOL and logging as a different guest. i bet it will not happen again

OK, thanks Van Player. So the auto complete is built into the browser itself, and h is different fron cookies, beacons and IP address.

But how is it that when I come to this forum in FoxFire, I am automatically signed in? Is it the same answer?
