This is because if the iphone is still in connection wirelessly to the router it will use the routher when tehered to get onto the internet so your ip address on the phone will be the same as your home one.
In my case thereing at home is useless because I have no normal 3G as the phone signal is poor and I have to use a cell tower in my office which is routed through the router so I still get the same ip as my pc.
I am going to try VPN as first choice, just which one to use? |

| download3000 | 03-08-2012 04:00 AM | you mean tether your phone to get internet from your phone to your pc? yes you can do this and it works great for stealth. |
| AyeDGAF | 03-08-2012 04:02 AM | wait so when i tether my iphone to my PC i will get new ip all the time?? o.o i never knew this! |
From what I understand, your iPhone becomes your modem for your pc and since the IP is dynamic, you do get a new IP (or relatively new) each time. |
| newjerseymax | 03-08-2012 05:46 PM | I use iphone tether... Few things to know. Not every carrier offers tethering... The feature is updated to the phone depending on who you use. Also, on AT&T you must purchase a minimum of 5GB data per month to have the option.
Not sure if jailbreaking changes all that. |
| Taicelt | 03-27-2012 07:40 PM | I have tested the ip on the iPhone even using the router for wifi it gives a different ip. Just make sure you disconnect first. |
| mrcvs1 | 03-27-2012 10:22 PM | I use my Iphone to tether to my laptop and so far so good. |
| Sandy D | 03-27-2012 11:03 PM | There is software you can use to get different IPs, however you can get duplicate IPs and have to restart the tethering again to get a new one. |
When I tether on my iphone I log the IP on my notes also to keep track of them. So far no repeating numbers. |
| BubbleTea | 04-06-2012 09:20 PM | Very good to know.
This is a very convenient way.
I would like to know, what about using the eBay app on iPhone?
I suppose the iPhone will have a fixed IP (or does it have an IP at all)?!? |

I suppose the iPhone will have a fixed IP (or does it have an IP at all)?!? | I wouldn't use the Ebay App, Stick to browsers, My personal favorite Iphone Browser App is "Atomic Web", it's more flexible than Safari and more options on clearing cookies and other data. I don't believe the Ebay App has a static IP since it's sending your current IP to Ebay servers so no I don't think the IP is static.
You can change your IP on your phone either by Enabling Airplane Mode then Disabling it. Also you can Disable 3G then Enabling it to get new IP. Make sure to Log your IP's or go to IP Burger - What is my IP Address? Find Your IP Address! which will log your last few IPs.
Good Luck. |

If you tether From your Iphone to PC, you have to either Tether with WIFI (assuming the PC Or Laptop have WIFI capability) or Tether with the Iphone Data Cable to the PC/Laptop. Tethering with WIFI does drain Iphone battery so I suggest Tethering with Data Cable. |

That also works. :thumb:
But also sucks lots of battery so I usually have it plugged into the charger.
I have also tried to tether with the 3G sim card using data cable and that also works. :) |

Good Luck. | Tried disabling 3G, then turning it back on, and IP Burger shows a new IP address.
Just to say that yup, it works! :mod: | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 08:11 AM. | |
