gmail still decent to use?

for a new email addy, it is suggested gmail is used but i am seeing gmail and youtube are changing their privacy policy soon and allowing for websites to be tracked? can anyone else confirm this or offer a provider which doesn't track anything?

Gmail still works well - keep images and beacons disabled.
