| | | terryp | 05-19-2008 09:15 AM | Paypal - Flash Objects - tracking of PayPal via flash objects Just a quick heads up as I’ve just had this happen (1/2 hour ago)…transferred money from my PP account and had 3 flash cookies left in the process???? All found by Ccleaner…system was clean before I logged into PP (I was not logged into eBay during this session)
These are NOT eBay related and do not say eBay or Paypal as the .sol
Looks like they are linking accounts via all the flash cookies! |
| imjustme | 05-19-2008 09:32 AM | What were they called? |
| terryp | 05-19-2008 10:38 AM | PP flash They were shown in Ccleaner as deleted ....I was going to write down the flash names but closed Ccleaner ??? Duhh!!! so lost all the data...but there are 3 of them; one had a weird start to it as 1999_ the other 2 were similar to the flash token generated by eBay…all random letters and numbers ..as I said before the system was totally clean before logging into PP and then transferring the funds
Forgot to say this was on PP UK...But I think everyone should be aware |
| Jonas | 05-20-2008 04:07 PM | You're supposed to have flash blocked by default. Firefox plugins exist for it.
Better yet get: K-Meleon
Has built-in flashblock that lets you selectively turn on flash. Flash is just functional as before, but you selectively click to load it. It's great.
Oh and cell phones like iPhone can't do flash. |
| aspkin | 05-20-2008 11:07 PM | You guys in the UK have it bad... CCleaner FTW. |
| terryp | 05-21-2008 06:25 AM | Flash You will find that if you don’t allow Flash then some operations on eBay will now hang…as it tries to Install the cookies…just 1 example uploading photos by ebays pic service…I know it took me ages to figure out what the problem was & eBay’s technical gurus were well cr@p as they did not want to give out any info...you know why
Flash cookies are very hit & miss but if you make a login on mistake 99% you will get them when you do log on
eBay OZ is the worst for the cookies, UK is still for me 1 in 10 chance..deleting them so far has made no difference to getting them again (about 1 in 10)
eBay are now using 3 flash cookies some dated 2009 in the string |
Paypal - Flash Cookies PayPal is now placing flash cookies on your computer. |
| imjustme | 06-12-2008 05:30 PM | I haven't seen any. What are they called? |
| aspkin | 06-12-2008 11:13 PM | Flash cookies are going to do some serious damage once eBay and Paypal start actively using them. We might see an influx of new readers to the forum soon. :p |
| GreenBean | 06-12-2008 11:18 PM | Arrrgghhh! The horror! |
| x2ruff4u | 06-13-2008 01:53 AM | You should do view source |

| meowmix541 | 06-13-2008 09:13 AM | Yes I caught one on my desktop computer last night from paypal of course I told it couldn't place any information my computer and denyed it. |
| The_Cynic | 06-13-2008 12:23 PM | There is also talk that if you have java enabled they can insert cookies into your java folder that will never delete. I searched but did find anythiong on it, but it was referenced in an ebay message on tracking.
--- I think the solution is to set up different user accounts on your computer, since all cookies, java, flash and regular are put into folders segregated by user. Only access ebay or paypal using the user account you have selected on your computer. Unless you you give them permission to put active X controls on your computer (Turbolister!!!!) they cannot track you. |
| ebayhateluv | 06-13-2008 02:06 PM | HI: I dont know what theyre called--but some banks use something besides a normal cookie to see if youre using the same pc--
i.e. Bank of America--uses a Site cookie/image---then when you log in on a diff pc-or after you use cookie cleaner--they know.
>>also--on Navy Federal credit union--when u log in to ck your acct bal/status on your credit app--it knows and asks you if you want to add this pc--if its different than last time, it automatically asks you a secret question youve set up to verify you...
>>MAYBE all these financial sites are going to this?? |
| imjustme | 06-13-2008 02:27 PM | I haven't found any across my almost 20 accounts I log into daily. They may not use them in the same way as eBay either. Perhaps only as settings cookies, not tracking cookies. |
| The_Cynic | 06-13-2008 04:30 PM | I just found paypal flash cookies in my flash folder. |
| Exeneva | 06-13-2008 05:42 PM | So is it possible to not create new accounts but clear your flash cookies using the flash manager every time you change accounts/login? |
| Marine | 06-13-2008 06:14 PM | I could set up a guide on how to run a virtual PC on your current pc, therefor not linking any cookies, info etc at all. It's like using a different computer.
Enough requests and i will. |
| MasterChief | 06-13-2008 07:19 PM | This is Request 2. :) |
| The_Cynic | 06-13-2008 08:11 PM | Each user acct on a computer will have separate folders for cookies, this includes the java and flash cookies.
----If you are on a computer as user A and then you shut down the computer and log on as user B, none of the cookies from user A have followed, nor can any cookies from another user communicate.
HOWEVER, they can track your IP and if you have downloaded a program with active x controls (Turbolister) they can identify the different users. |
| Marine | 06-13-2008 08:15 PM | That way would work.
My way would be for people who are paranoid and want to be 100% sure. |

| Killed by Ebay | 06-13-2008 10:36 PM | ^^^^ I am paranoid |
| terryp | 06-14-2008 01:52 AM | Pp Flash I startd a post here almost 1 month ago warning that I had recieved a Flash Cookie from PP UK  |
| GreenBean | 06-14-2008 01:54 AM | I remember. I thought you were.....RIGHT as it happens now. OOPS!;)
btw, Sorry:p |
| The_Cynic | 06-14-2008 11:59 PM | I just did a little experiment on my bank account. On one user account on my computer I usually access my wamu, each time I go to the site it recognizes me and I just need to insert my password, even after cleaning my cookies. So after visiting the site I logged off and then logged on again as a different user on my computer.
Voila! it did NOT recognize me |
| imjustme | 07-05-2008 05:21 PM | I got them here now too. Funny thing is when I first got it, my Firefox browser crashed for performing an illegal operation. I guess they were trying to get more access than they're allowed. |
| greg2414 | 07-05-2008 06:02 PM | Their not to bad after all then :p |
| Ballsack | 07-07-2008 02:39 AM | No flash cookies for me |
| cygnusx1 | 07-08-2008 03:09 PM | flash cookies and Opera I just sign up for paypal using "opera" explorer. But however I use Mozilla when selling on ebay and objection did locate the ebay flash cookies but nothing from paypal. Is this going to be a problem if paypal can't locate there own flash cookies within the opera browser? BTW I even manually search for them without objection and still nothing. |
| tvaughan08 | 07-08-2008 04:56 PM | I second the motion request for me also |
| moh96 | 07-18-2008 10:22 AM | does any1 know if these flash objects can be installed on MAC?
I know you cant get viruses and spyware using Mac, so I am assuming that these are considered kinda of spyware
any1 have an answer to this? |
| moh96 | 07-18-2008 10:57 AM | Thanks Modee, I did read the whole thread but I guess I didnt understand what they are very well, I thought they are the same idea of spyware.
here is a link to firefox add on that will automatically delete them https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6623
thanks all and gl |
| badebay | 07-18-2008 11:08 AM | correct me if i'm wrong. but arent they supposed to inform you they are placing flash cookies etc on your system !! I'snt that an infringement of your privacy to just plonk them on your drive. Thats like going into walmart and placing a camera on the wall to count footfall. is it me or am i alone in thinking thats against some law somewhere. or maybe if you sign a user agreement.; they can and will; thank you person. bloody cheek
i am going to contact my member in goverment about that. for sure. and other agencies |
