Let us put an end to the MAC ID MYTH
So I have always seen people on this forum refer to something called the MAC ID, the MAC ID is a way to refer to a piece of hardware that has networking capabilities. Anything that has the ability to communicate with the outside world usually has a MAC address associated with it.
Does Ebay use the MAC address to associate accounts?
No, it doesn't use the MAC address, in fact it would be almost impossible for them to get the MAC address, now lets understand why..
Alot of people believe that these so called "Flash Applets", or whatever are able to track your MAC address, now while these Flash Applets do a good job at storing cookies and what not and delivering other rich media content, they are unable to get your "MAC" address. Now if for example you were to install a program on your computer from Ebay, thats a different story.
Flash is a bytecode language, meaning it isn't ran on the proccessor itself, another example of a bytecode language is Java, both of these languages have to run through a Virtual Machine, which will compile and run it. And since they aren't ran natively on the CPU, they are only able to do so much. There is currently NO API FUNCTION THAT CAN RETRIEVE THE MAC ADDRESS FROM A USERS COMPUTER HOWEVER, you STILL must delete these Flash Cookies that are placed inside of the Flash folder, otherwise you have yourself a plot for disaster.
