Better way to Change your IP with Cable Modem Connected to CERTAIN Wireless Routers

I wrote this because the other "Good" write up did not work for me and it might not work for other as well. This one worked like a charm for me and it forced the cable company to provide me with a new IP address.

Before you start make sure you jot down your current IP address to make sure a change has taken effect. Goto What Is My IP Address? - IP Address Lookup, Info, Speed Test, and more for that.

1- Login to your router typically it is 192.168.1.1

2- Default login should be set to Linksys and password to admin

3- click on "MAC Address Clone"

4- Enable it and in the last BOX and I repeat, in the LAST BOX replace the 00 with 01.

5- DO NOT HIT CLONE, instead click on save settings (You will be disconnected from the internet, but that is OK).

6- Turn your modem, and your router off (Does not matter which order).

7- Wait for about 30 seconds, and then Turn on the Modem first and then the wireless router.

8- Go to your router settings on the browser again, click on status.

9- Click on DHCP release and then Click on DHCP Renew.

That in turn forces your cable internet provider (Typically comcast) to authorize a new IP address to you as it recognizes you as a new person.

Same basic principle, a little better explaining it, thanks digzober. :)

he basically just took my picture and put them in text format lol.

if you did it "RIGHT" there is no reason to turn anything off. if your turning your router modem off then anything else is pointless. my method was to avoid the retsarting of your modem. lol

Actually, for two routers It was a must that I had to turn the router off and the modem. I also had to turn them on back in order for it to happen... I am only making a suggestion in the case that if it didn't work on the other howto, then it should work with mine. Good luck!
