Using a portable usb browser

The are browsers that clear cookies and information after each visit.

Will they work to stop ebay linking you ?

JamesNorth101 08-02-2013 01:52 PM

This would be a bad idea. Better to keep cookies and use multiple windows accounts.

fuggles 08-02-2013 02:20 PM

Okay.

How does having multiple Windows accounts/profiles stop ebay tracking you ?

Dmshark25 08-02-2013 02:23 PM

It keeps the cookies from each account separate, you also need new IP

JamesNorth101 08-02-2013 02:35 PM

You need to have a read though the steath guide if you have not already.

fuggles 08-02-2013 02:44 PM

I see.

But I fail to see how ebay could link accounts through flash cookies,
when one is using a "wipe the slate clean" browser, which is what usb browsers are.

After every use, this is what happens.

Would it work as an alternative to making a new Windows account ?

Yes, I have the IP problem sorted, and will change it for each account.

rsot 08-02-2013 02:53 PM

I dont delete cookies - I use new user accounts for each account and keep them.

fuggles 08-02-2013 02:57 PM

Okay. I see.

But it wouldn't matter if you did delete them though would it.

JamesNorth101 08-02-2013 03:15 PM

It would matter, eBay and PP like to see cookie history build up on your computer.

Someone who never has history raises flags.

Separate User accounts is by far the best method.

john456 08-02-2013 10:57 PM

Portable usb browser does not buy you anything. It just means you can use it on any computer without installing it.

Clearing cookie may help prevent linking as long as the IP changes and you track your IPs.

However eBay will consider that you are login on a brand new computer each time and will probably ask you security questions each time you login

Not ideal at all. Windows account are so easy to do. Much stronger method.

It does matter.

paypal/ebay react when they see an account that has no cookies.

They prefer to see them so they look for their prescence. If they are not seen, both paypal & ebay can take action to check the account.

Not worth being flagged

Therefore the safest advice is to have cookies.

Simple really

IF you delete them, eB/pp will think you are a new unrecognized user each time - this is not good - they may ask to call you to verify with PIN entry or so...it's a pain and also raises security flags of unauthorized access
