Questions about using a pay as you go dongle

Is the IP determined by the sim I put in it ?

Will the Ip change each time, even if I use the same sim ?

What is the micro sd slot on the dongle for ?

My plan is to get these 2 items, and then go from there.

When it runs out, I could simply buy another pre paid sim card.

Secondly, only using ebay and paypal would not use up much credit on the sim , I think.

IP would be dependent on the SIM card used AND the company you access (each company has their own range of IP provided)

Secondly, true - eB and pp would not use much credit at all - it's just in CASE they decide to call...or you decide to call them (why you would bother calling them is up to you though....unless absolutely necessary...)

IP range is down to ISP

Three will have a range from say 19.857.24.1 to 19.891.283.8 (totally made up)

Orange will have another range that does not overlap with Three, same for Vodafone, T- Mobile, EE, ect ect

If you are with Orange and buy a new SIM also with orange, the range will not change.

Most large UK providers have enough of a range to never get IP matching (or at least not often). If you do get a matching IP, simply change it.

So long as your just doing EB and PP, you will go though very little data.

The 'micro sd slot' is for a Micro SD card.

So long as the dongle is dynamic, it will change each time.

Personally I think t-mobile have the best plan

Mobile Broadband on Your Laptop - USB stick mobile broadband packages

Most important thing is to make sure you keep track of your IP's - http://www.aspkin.com/forums/multipl...-stealths.html Should help make that easier.

But they are monthly contracts, not my style.

Secondly, how do I know if the dongle uses a static IP

Surely each pre paid sim will give a new IP, surely ?

Completely off topic - why would a dongle need a micro sd card slot ? ( I don't mean the sim card slot)

Cant have your cake and eat it too...I don't think a monthly will drain all your profits, if you can't afford the monthly bill then you may want to consider selling more profitable.

The dongle does not determine if its static or dynamic, the ISP provider does.

They have a slot for an SD CARD because it can also serve as a Flash Drive.

Scroll down the page and you will see the PAYG. £15 for 30 days

You ask them before buying if it is static. Static dongles in the UK are rare, and expensive so you are unlikely to have any issues here.

As mentioned, the IP range is assigned to the ISP, not the sim.

Each sim with any given network will have the possibility to get any IP within that ISP's ranges.
