Magento owned by eBay
 

I just signed up with Magento Go (trying to expand beyond eBay to diversify) and I find out that the company is owned by eBay. I have a working PayPal account that is linked to a recently suspended eBay account. I was hoping to still use this PayPal account with Magento while it hasn't been fried. I was going to change my IP and link the PayPal to Magento.

What do you think? Steer clear of adding PayPal to Magento so my new IP's doesn't get linked? I haven't seen any mention of Magento on this forum so any help would be appreciated:confused:.

I would stay away from Magento. Why give eBay the power to shut down your eBay accounts AND your website?

I created a website using xcart to stay away from ebay a couple of years back. I kept paypal as my creditcard processor.

Guess what? One day I get an email from paypal saying that they reviewed my website and found I am selling products that may violate their user agreement.

Turns out they were wrong but while I was sorting things out with paypal, I could not process any credit cards and lost orders during days.

Don`t keep all your operations at the mercy of eB and PP affiliated companies /period

Avoid this at all costs.

ebay/paypal specialises in linking. You will be caught.

What are some good alternatives to Magento? Something easy to make a site and customize without having to spend a fortune on a freelancer.

Damn eBay buying up all the good stuff...sick of them.

Volusion has worked for me. It can be set up by a novice, but has advanced features you will eventually be happy to have.

I know it may be old but I still use Yahoo store. I've been with them off and on since 91 when I had my first store. They've improved quite a bit since then...and I can upload as many damned products as I want (I have 17K products and the plus for me is no sku/item fee). I can't beat $15.98 a month with a stick and a carrot.

I had a magento go store for a while and used my pp and debit card that was used on my suspended ebay account and I never had a problem - I must have just been lucky they never linked me !
(or maybe they are so greedy that they dont care, as your off ebay and its ur own site so u dont have to answer to them or their rules anymore ?)

Yahoo is not a bad option, but I hate the per sale fee they charge. I'd rather pay a higher monthly fee than give up 1.5% of each sale. It is a good option when you are starting out, but as your volume grows, it can get expensive!

Also, just to add, Chrislands.com is good for books and can also be easily modified for DVD sales. It's like $25 per month for up to 10,000 products and $35 a month for more than 10,000 products.

The amount of books I have passed on buying at estate sales over the years would be amazing to you.

Box after box after box of vintage or reading books selling for 1-3 a box full for many years.

Heavy and takes up too much space so I passed.

Probably passed on many very good vintage books.

I currently still use my eBay Paypal on my website because the paypal isn't shut down.

I just can't link my website to another paypal or another eBay.

I just visited the magneto website not knowing that it is an eBay company. I used a brand new computer while visiting, never logged on to eBay. But I clearest all my cookies and flash afterwards. Anyone linked visiting the magento website?
