Noob tech question - Ethernet cable from wifi box to another wifi box?

Hi guys,

This may sound like a silly question to you guys, but basically, I am in the process of setting up my office in a log cabin which is approximately 150 meters away from my house.

I want to link my wifi router from the house via a 150 meter ethernet cable and have something to distribute wifi in the log cabin so i can connect to that via wireless on my laptop/iphone etc. What would you guys suggest as i have no idea what i would use?

Thanks

That be a super long cable.

Make sure to never coil it or risk connection issues.

Wow 150 meters...that is long and must be protected. You should consider getting a building professional to run it nicely there unless you're a true DIY-er.

Alternatively, if you have power source in the cabin - just get a dongle for your computer there and have its own IP - seems simpler...or smartphone tether.

Maybe a powerline adapter is your best option. Every major router manufacturer has their own preferred versions (or you can get a generic one).

For Netgear, it would look something like this...

Just plug into any outlet and then plug in the ethernet cable. After setting up WPS security, you would have instant access to your router through the powerline.

What might also work is a WiFi range extender.

150 meters is pretty far, so it's possible you may need to range extender with a repeater to amplify the signal.

I suggest consulting with your router's manufacturer to see what products they have to support extended wifi coverage.

I was also thinking of powerline option but I can figure that cabin is separate power than the main house....the way things are wired up these days....if not, than yes powerline is great
