You need to look into VPS. Look on Google

could you, please, explain why VPN is no good?
the guide didn't say it was bad and suggests a few brands.
I was considering a couple that provided so-called 'fixed' , 'dedicated' or 'anchor' IP's opposed to the 'shared' variety

Hey.

I have just left my laptop with my stealth ebay. and I am on holiday now..using remote acc apps. Don't bother to use VPN ... invest in cheap laptop and use remote apps like logmein or microsoft remote.

Useful to know all the options.
Just wondering though, why VPN is "no good" as it is in the stealth guide.

Can they see its a vpn connection if its fixed?
or do they not simply see the IP wherever it happens to show?
Would be nice to have some understanding on this and difference with VPS

How do remote apps work?
Do they show you as being at home while you're somewhere else?

The book was written quite some time ago.

Active users have found that VPNs are not as sound as previously thought.

This happened because far too many people used VPNs & got burned.

Since we attempt to be up to date, we suggest alternatives.

Could you do yourself a favour and read thro' the ebay tracking section. There are dozens of posts on this topic. Comes down to choices.

Yes, I really thought VPN would be the choice way to go. Will go through the ebay tracking thread.

What about VPS. Is that something one can setup at home, or is there a list of good one's to use? particularly in the uk?

No lists of good VPS exist on the forum. If they did they would quickly become not very good (due to over use)

Go to Google, go 10/15 pages deep and have a search.

If you are in the UK, and looking to have a UK EB, then there are much better and cheaper alternative about.

Reply depends on the purposes for needing the VPS.

I am of the school that a user already resident in a given country has no need.

Share your reasons and we can talk more.

In stealth, there is usually a workaround IF you know the best choices.
