How exactly do dongles work?
 

I have been thinking about switching to a dongle, but I am not familiar with how it works. I see them on various websites for around $30, but how is the internet connection set up? Do I purchase one online or in a store and then bring it to Verizon, Tmobile, etc. and have it set up with internet? Can I go into the store and pay cash each month? How do I remain anonymous while doing this? Thank you...

With the mifi dongle I have, it accepts a SIM card with pre loaded data. Get an unlocked one and a few different sims= lots of ip addresses

I use the Verizon jetpack mifi, just restart the device and you have a new IP 99.9% of the time.

Of course, it's just as if you were to go purchase a phone form them.

Your first and more sensible choice is to check your area has good reception.

Then you decide what plan would suit your needs.

Make no committment to purchase a dongle until you cover these bases.

The other point to consider is if your IP will be dynamic.

As for being anonymous, good luck with that.
