ebay tracking ip only when logging in (with password) or browsing too?
 

ok, I havent found a definitive answer to this question:

does ebay track your IP when you are just browsing (such as doing a search for an item from an browser that is logged into an active eBay account)?

here is the scenario: you are in an eB id "abc123", on a specific computer user account for use with this id, and connecting always with IP: 699.999.999 for use this ebay account. this ip is the one you signed up the account with.

then one day, ooops, you opened the browser without checking IP, and you are not aware that you are actually connected with ip 688.888.888 (used to sign up a different eB account).. and you do some browsing on eB,.. the upper left corner shows your username: "abc123". you were never asked to login to eB under this IP 688.888.888 for id" "abc123", does that mean that the 2 eB accounts are linked?

does ebay track this kind of behavior? I guess this question is trying to differentiate between eB IP tracking of LOGGED IN account activity, vs ip tracking of when LOGGING IN to an account. The objective is trying to establish if the former actually exist.

They're probably tracking every IP even if not signed in. But then they need to match it to something, maybe you login 3 days later from the same IP to a specific user and that gets linked unless it's a public IP like from a cell company that can be shared, then the link is not that HARD per say. Or maybe they link that IP not singed in with your current cookies in your current browser, and shows another user using that same browser before so those get linked etc. So you don't need to be logged in to be in trouble, safest way is not to touch ebay website unless all your basis are covered, different IP, user, cookies etc

They track it both when logging in and when browsing.

Like Karakolio said, it is tracked at all times, even off their site (targeted advertising).
Your user name shows up because of cookies stored.
It would link if the IP 688.888.888.888 was regularly used by another account, and suddenly this computer w/user abc123 cookies is using it, could throw a flag.
