mobile tethering - anonymous ip?

so if you switch your flight mode on and off again you get a brand new ip address, tether a portable hotspot and connect your laptop to phone broadband - is this a good way to go about stealth?

i haven't run a stealth account for 2 years, i used to very successfully use hidemyass premium vpn but read that they can see through them now and cause limitations - same with tor. read a lot about SOCKS but really don't understand that.

so my question is how secure is mobile tethering?

for me it seems a good option. i checked my ip and was connected to bradford when i'm not even in the same county, it doesn't show as your using a proxy so wouldn't set off alarm bells i don't think?

so my question is - is this a good idea, and is it traceable?

thanks in advance

Hi,
it is definitively treaceable since your phone is registered to someone but this is not the point.

You need to have a frash IP so your old account would not be linked to your new (stealth) account.

I guess you better get some useful hints by reading the Stealth Guide.
Read the forum too, you will have a good, healthy stealth account in no time. :thumb:

As far as being stealth then it is all you need.

It is not anonymous though.... But it does not need to be RE eBay and PayPal

Mobile tethering works perfectly, and of course turning flight mode on and off does give new IP addresses which always need to be logged of course to ensure there is no duplication. This won't be traceable as far as stealth goes, and people do run accounts this way successfully. Alternatives would include buying a dongle and 3G work excellently for this, I have a Huawei mobile wifi that I got from a local 3 store, it is wireless and apparently I can just buy new top up sim when it runs out in three months time, the available sims which these mobile sims run off were available for one month, three months, or 12 months, and whichever one I bought to start with is the set value of the top ups I can buy for it going forward, so in my case for three months at a time.

I also use a Huawei wireless dongle from 3 pay as you go and had no problems at all with IP address changes every time I got mine from Argos in UK

Nice one saldownes, how many accounts do you run from yours?, I haven't started with mine yet, dealing with other account issues at the moment, but would be interesting to read about your experiences with yours.

ok - my only concern for anonymity is that I have been scammed before and had accounts go into negative balance. the general consensus i have read on this issue is just to dump them as they are not your genuine account details.

but if they look into the ip and somehow trace it back to my phone i would be in trouble?

That is not at all the general consensus.

If you owe eBay or PayPal money then you need to pay it.

apologies for my confusion, i have definately seen this comment posted numerous times both on here and the blackhatworld forums - the fact it is stealth, you have been scammed, and none of the details you used were yours make it a good idea to dump. i did not do that myself i ended up paying off the negative balance as it was only a minimal amount - but i've got some high value items to sell now which would really screw me if someone pulled a scam

i would hope it wouldn't come to that as i am a good seller, provide next day tracked shipping and weigh and take photos of my product. i was quite naive when i first started selling and made some rookie mistakes!

my main question though is how they would actually trace your ip from phone tethering. for example my last 2 have shown up as bradford and london - surely there are many people on the exchange so how would they pick out you?

I strongly support JamesNorth101 point of view.

Because you were the one connected from that cell to that IP and phone is registerd in your name and details.

There is no such anonymity on the web... not that simple... fortunately... how can serious criminals be tracked and punished for good otherwise?

true that's a very good point! just frustrating that the low level scammers on ebay and paypal will get away with it many times because of chargebacks and nothing can be done...if only there was a way to track and punish them!

Its a case of just being extra careful.

If your going to sell an expensive item though eBay check out the winners feedback, make sure the item is posted with tracking and a signature.

Safe guard yourself as much as possible
