Firstly. Ive read the latest ebay stealth revision and its very good. The only real question ive had after reading the entire book is this.
"The ebay stealth book mentions that if you have multiple users on the same network and one of those users logs in with a suspended account and you proceed to log into your unbanned account on the same network you run a risk of getting your account suspended also, i find this very unusual and hard to believe and more so hard to get my head around because that would be totally unfair to the unbanned user if they are a legitimate user and have done nothing wrong. What happens in a internet cafe environment, or worse still in an office environment with multiple users ? are you saying that it just takes 1 user to log in with their suspended user account to basically suspended the other 50 legitimate users due to using a shared ip address ? mobility is a huge thing these days and moving from network to network, computer to computer is a very common thing i highly doubt that just an IP conflict itself (if all other aspects of the account are unique as well as local computer settings) will be the result of an immediate suspension."
I dont doubt that ebay may flag both accounts as "suspicious" but i dont think it will warrant an immediate suspension if after looking at both accounts only flags the IP address shared conflict as a means of total suspension on both accounts, am i right in saying this ? maybe im not but id like some further explanation on this. |
| coopster72 | 12-30-2008 12:03 PM | You are right. IP address means very little these days. I still switch Ip's just to make sure, but I've slipped up from time to time and the accounts are fine.
Like you said, we are in a mobility world. Ebay and Paypal can't rely on IP or MAC ID anymore.
That's why they came out with tracking cookies years ago and flash object more recently.
It's the cookies and flash objects that will ABSOLUTELY get you suspended if they are crossed with a suspended account!!!
You may work in the same office or be at the same coffee shop, but you are not logged into the same computer as the same user.
I use IE with ccleaner and ie7 pro and never had a problem. I still switch IP's out of habit, but I'm starting to think it's a waste of time. Not ready to give it up though :) Let me know if you do it. |
| philly387 | 12-30-2008 01:03 PM | The only way to knowing this is by trial and error. Try not switching IP's and see what happens. Just delete all cookies/flash cookies and see if they get linked and suspended. |
| coopster72 | 12-30-2008 04:37 PM | I think I'll try it. Create an account on a random ip somewhere, log out and log in with a suspended account, mix up all the cookies and stuff and see what happens. Then I'll do the same thing on the same ip, and clear cookies. I'll let you know the outcome. |
| philly387 | 12-30-2008 04:54 PM | Thanks coopster...Will look forward to the answer :) |
| ebaysucksthebigone | 12-30-2008 06:09 PM | agreed Exactly my sentiments with the above responses.
Cooper, good idea about your plan... its a good test to see if you will get banned or not.
I will be creating 2 ebay account very soon for testing purposes as will be following the above mentioned method to see if they link (everything else will be to a T via the ebay stealth book)
Ill report my outcome, but looks like cooper will be the first with some answers im looking forward to your response. |
| siashay | 12-30-2008 09:24 PM | I have thought about this question myself. I thought about all the places i logged in over the years I had my account, Friends house, My father in law who has an account since 98, campgrounds. You name it and none of their account got suspended after my own.
But then again, I believe that the only reason why I was suspended is because a girlfriend of mine logged into her suspended account on my computer. So who knows. Better to be safe then sorry. |
| ebaysucksthebigone | 12-30-2008 10:04 PM | Ive been and currently have been in the same situation myself my wife has an ebay account for many years and my account go suspended but i continued to list on hers (non vero items) and nothing ever happened NOTHING... using the same ip address also. That is why it makes me wonder its not just IP that causes a trigger for suspension. |
Hello All,
I have read almost all forums about the IP tracking. I agree that cookies + beacons + IP in combination... is how ebay tracks you, but I am almost 100% positive it is not IP address (or ISP) that being discussed in the forums, that is easily changable by turning modem off for 5 min and/or getting dialup or AOL service. It is physical your computer IP that you can see by going Start, command Run, type cmd, then type: ipconfig, there you will see you physical IP address that is not changable. Many online banks also recognize you by your comp. physical IP. You also know that once you try to log into ebay from a different computer, that you NEVER used before, Ebay will give you onscreen messsage, that they cannot recognize your computer and you will need to provide 4 digit verification code that they will text or message to your phone. |
Sorry....I meant not IP address, but so called Mac Address (physical address)
You can see your address: Start, Run, type cmd, then type ipconfig/all |
| lotsof baskets | 01-18-2009 11:42 AM | Hi Iry,
I am pretty sure that when you are told by a bank site or ebay that your computor is not recognized it is because the cookies and/or the flash objects have been deleted. |
| simogold | 01-18-2009 01:15 PM | be aware of the useragent!!! the only infos that someone knows about you from internet are:
IP Address, ISP, HostName, Useragent of your brower and of course cookies and all these crap.
try to check thsi site which i use it a lot to see my IP's" My IP Information |
| simogold | 01-18-2009 01:53 PM | also about the useagent of the browser. |
| yaw1800 | 01-20-2009 09:07 PM | one thing i realized is that some of their information is either incorrect or on a broad spectrum (or it could just be my IP lol)
It says my location is Stamford, CT when im in Bronx, NY = not too much of a distance, but i wouldnt expect my Ip so be that far off..interesting, Thanks for the info | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 02:02 PM. | |
