Etsy Payments end of stealth ?

Direct Checkout has a new look and a new name. Etsy Payments allows you to accept multiple payment methods, including credit cards, PayPal, and Apple Pay. It’s also more flexible, stable, and secure than ever.

Because we want buyers to have a consistent experience when they check out on Etsy, we’re requiring that all sellers set up Etsy Payments by 17th May 2017. If you don’t set up Etsy Payments, your selling privileges will be suspended on 18th May. All you need to do to get started is connect your bank account and verify your identity.

guys check your Emails. Every shop that doesn't have Direct Checkout will be shut down on May 18th 2017 ! ! !

I just saw this email, really concerned. I have direct checkout set up but I take it this is all new? 'All you need to do is connect your bank and verify your identity' is the part that worries me. I already have my bank linked to my account for direct checkout but how do they plan on verifying our identities? Obviously I used stealth details with my real bank account?

Also how do you even have an account without direct checkout? I dont think anyone has been able to open an account without DC for a while? Its easier for UK people but I still dont understand exactly what etsy will do if we already have our bank account linked to our DC?

I was doable the youngest one I have is about 2 month old. If you already have the DC you have to do nothing.

IMO, the biggest problem with doing stealth now is when Etsy asks for your SSN when you begin to approach the 200 sales/$20,000 threshold. If I remember correctly, they ask you VERY early in the process. From what I've been reading, they will accept an EIN for tax purposes as well, so I'm thinking if you apply for an EIN under your legal name it will be all good as your business name is connected to the actual EIN number.

But I'm sure the email says you have to switch from DC to 'Etsy Payments', so I dont know if people using DC will still have to add their bank account to the new system..

The problem is how to verify the identity with DC ( etsy payments) for stealth made up names accounts they will ask for a SSN id and crap like that. How actually make it work ?

log in to the account which has DC and it go to dashboard and you will see the message that you don't need to do anything

Yeah, I was making that statement assuming there was a workaround. Is it possible at all to use a different name for the bank account than the one used for Etsy?

Yes, when it asks for your bank info you put your real info in so real new bank account then when it asks for your details you put in your stealth details and stealth address. I dont think etsy can actually see your bank info. You will usually get a message straight away saying they cant confirm your identity which is when you need to provide an ID that has your stealth details on it.

UK is a lot easier as we don't need to provide SSN but I'm sure there are ways around this.

Looks like Paypal stealth is still the way to go here. Etsy doesn't have a transmitter license so the DC/Etsy Payments are still the same thing in terms of what they see vs what they don't. They are just forcing it on everyone now vs letting stores with just Paypal in the US from before 2015 to keep it.

I'm not overly concerned as it's not anything too crazy except if you have stand-alone paypal in the US(and a few other places) you're losing it.

I assumed the UK et.sy guys here wouldn't be affected if they are already on DC. Is this being rolled out across all the US accounts too now?

Yeah it says if you already have DC you dont need to do anything else and you will automatically be switched over in May so thats a relief.

I didnt even know it was still possible to open up an etsy with just PayPal? Ive never been given that option.

Hi Guys! The biggest poblem is that Etsy need your scanned ID card for the verification.. I just tried their new Etsy Payments option and filled out everything ( bank account infos, personal infos etc..) and after that the next step is: verify your identity ... upload your scanned ID card or driving lesson, passport.. :(

So.. if you were banned with your real name and address you can't make this Etsy Payment setup :(

They have always done this.. If your real billing address doesn't match your stealth address then of course they cant verify you. So you need to upload an ID that matches your stealth details :) We all have to do this and its easily done.

I have an etsy stealth for years but no DC, only standalone paypal, now that they are asking for the bank and info to verify id...what can i do?

How were you able to get away with setting up your real bank account with stealth info?

yes that's a huge issue right now with the size of a fu##ing house at least for me. Lets find the solution
