Direct Checkout vs Paypal

Hi everyone,

Do you think DC accounts sell better than PP accounts? Meaning, do DC accounts sell better than PP accounts or is it pretty much the same?

Cheers!

It depends heavily on the item and price. I can make my Paypal stores do as well as DC shops, but others may not have the luxury to drop their price to get the sales. If you can make DC shops you should to expand your market, but Paypal shops are just as good.

In my opinion, Reverb’s Direct Checkout is a better option

At the very least, it doesn’t hurt having the option enabled as some customers would

rather checkout directly on a site using their credit card rather than using PayPal.

Another disadvantage of Paypal is of course that you're dependent on a working etsy and a working paypal account, whereas for DC you don't have to deal with the paypal retards.

But when you lose your shop you're never seeing your money again out of Etsy, at least in most cases. You can usually get your money out of Paypal in 180 days.

I have set it to disburse tot the bank account right after every single sale so there isn't much of a risk of etsy holding my $$$ hostage. Also I hope Paypal will soon die a painful death :smash:, so when I can avoid it, I will.

That only works on existing accounts and eligible countries, most etsy sellers deal with:

Quote:

After signing up and adding your bank information, there is a 5-day hold on the funds in your payment account. This hold only occurs when bank information is added or changed.

Once the 5-day hold has lifted, your deposits will fall into a schedule based on your sales history, as described below:

If fewer than 90 days have passed since your first sale, regardless of payment method, the money from Etsy Payments orders will become available for deposit 3 days after the sale.
If 90 or more days have passed since your first sale, the money from Etsy Payments orders will become available for deposit the next business day.

If the paypal account is fresh you'll have to deal with 21 days holds on paypal for 60 days. I rather have etsy hold it for 3 days on a new account. But I can understand that some ppl might prefer paypal. I have only toasted one etsy account yet, while there are a few paypal accounts that have been closed down...

You don't need to make new Paypal accounts for Etsy....If you're losing PayPal accounts because of Etsy there's something clearly going on with your business model.

They add emails to their Pa.ypa.l so it looks new or something like that...

Myself and others have posted about this before. You can run 8 accounts off one PayPal, it's not a big deal.

I got ya. Due to my profound disgust for paypal, I try to avoid it whenever possible. Not only as a seller, also as a buyer. If it's not absolutely necessary they won't earn a penny with me.
