Has anyone been able to make the same on etsy as ebay?
 

Please share your stories. Is etsy a waste of time after ebaying for 20 years? Seems like you make more but less sales?

From personal experience I can't rely on esty as a full-time income source so I supplement it with ebay+amazon.

It depends largely on what you are selling. Etsy doesn't have the hype or the traffic flow of the larger platforms EB and AMZ. That doesn't mean you can't make a decent income, though. I believe Gladiator makes a pretty penny due to his chosen branded avenue selling via Etsy. Don't quote me. :p

Etsy makes 1000x more than eBay for me. My shops all on average make six figures and I got a bunch of them. Just depends on what you sell and how.

Thank you Gladiator. At least I have some hope now. Can you list any amount a day or do they make you do it slowly like on ebay.

i'm making 30% more on Etsy than i did on Ebay. For the items i sell Ebay just doesnt have the traffic no more but Etsy does. I only joined Etsy 2 months ago but wish i had joined sooner.

Before I got kicked off etsy, I was selling less transactions on etsy but the price per item was alot higher. Basically with ebay lowest price wins it feels like, with etsy unique items win price doesnt matter as much. Even though I sell more on ebay I'm devastated to have lost my etsy account and hoping to get back on with help.

I passed my 12,000 sale on ETY a few months back. A lot of them were multiple items, so it represents about 26K products.

I personally sell a lot more there than on EB.

For me I make a lot more on etsy and the good thing is customers on etsy don't mind about paying for shipping whereas most people on eBay want free shipping so you end up losing even more per sale. I think it just all depends on what you sell though and some things wouldn't work on eBay that do great on etsy and vice versa.

I think that you need to do your research if your products would work better on Etsy or on eBay, 2 completely different marketplaces.

Don't get too excited, the free shipping bug has started to infect the ETY buyer base as well, it's like a fatal infection.

I now get 3-4 emails a week asking things like "Do you refund shipping overages?", and, "If I buy 2 $3.99 discounted promotional items can I get free shipping?", and of course the famous "If you offered free shipping instead of overcharging me I'd buy a lot more", when I say, 'give me a list of the things you want to buy and I'll see what I can do', I get a list of several things totaling $15. Seriously? Free shipping for $15 bucks of stuff?!! You can't be serious!

I also love the ones who say "I want to make an amazingly large order for my business, what kind of a huge discount can you offer?" Then they want to purchase $20 and want me to customize it endlessly and exchange 50 excruciating, detailed emails, and think that's a huge order and they deserve a % off + free shipping. :(

I started just saying, "Great! I love large volume customers, how many hundreds each of XXX would you like me to quote you for?" Oddly, they never come back.

Don't get me wrong, I'll happily sell anyone a $4 order as fast as I will a $200 lot, but don't pretend you're something you're not.

I never do that to my suppliers. I order 250K pieces at a time and stock 2.5 million pieces, they know I'm a real seller, not some make-believe $100 month 'business' talking about their 'huge volume purchase', lol. :)

Thats great Dallis. I only realised now after 2 months on Etsy you can see shops previously items sold if you click on the " X sales " link on their shop page ( only if they have it enabled ). Surprisingly, a lot of shops have this enabled so i'm able to pretty much see what sells best in my particular field.

Dallis - with the recent fee increases, how much do you think the full % fee is per transaction now ?

Get these as well and always ask myself why I'd want to help prop them up into a potential competitor.
