Can you sell branded items on ETSY?
 

Guys i see a lot of people on Etsy selling branded items saying that are "hand made?!?!?" how's that possible? when i tried to sell some branded items 1 year ago i got banned in 1 week.

You can sell branded items as 'supplies' such as charms, pendants, the bracelets or necklace chains they go on, as an example.

I see people selling brand new t shirts from big brands. I thought that was against etsy policy

It is against policy but Etsy do not always enforce it as they should - it depends on how many complaints are registered

I do know there is supposed to be a buyer who buys certain items just to be able to take them down - it's anecdotal so may be bullsh*t - but I have seen quite a few sellers as you describe taken down - it's not a good long term strategy

Everything listed for sale on Etsy must be handmade, vintage or a craft supply.
Reselling is not allowed in the handmade category on Etsy. Reselling refers to listing an item as handmade when you were not involved in designing or making that item.

reselling brand name items its very risky and can get you banned.

please never sell Louis Vuitton and Chanel. They report very quickly.
But they sells really goooood.

People can list whatever they want, it's just a matter of time until they get banned though if they are listing things etsy doesn't allow.

You'll get banned in long term anyway.

1 day, 1 week or 1 month - there are bots and manual account reviews triggered by listed item keywords.

Only matter of time.

There is 2 sellers that are selling branded items for over 1 year.. I used to sell the same stuff but I got suspended in 1 week

Yes, definitely you can!

As long as the products aren't counterfeit, or infringe a brand in some other way. If the brand owner doesn't send Etsy corporate a legal notice, Etsy will rarely remove a listing (or a shop) for blatant reselling.

You can sell manufacturers' overstocks as your own handmade.
You can become a rep/distributor and resell that brand's items as your own handmade.
You can resell items you were gifted, are bored with, or just don't want around any more, as handmade -- and you can name the brand in your title and tags.
You can buy branded jewelry, home wares, clothing, decor items, etc. and resell them as your own handmade.
You can resell authentic luxury brand bags, shoes, accessories, jewelry and clothing as your own handmade. Sometimes sellers cite the brand as their "production partner" in their listings. Hilarious!

There is virtually NO risk to doing this.

The guidelines for what can be sold on Etsy, published on the site, are there as a kind of legacy, But they have almost no meaning. The current version of the Etsy home page (the one I see when not signed in, anyway) touts "independent sellers" rather than designers and/or crafters of unique products. Vintage was removed from the home page in the first week of June 2020.

I am currently working on reference pages for my blogs that link to all the major brands that are being resold as handmade on Etsy. I am also working on summaries for the years I've been blogging (since Summer 2015) to provide evidence that you totally can resell for years on Etsy as long as you don't infringe the brands involved. Reselling a product you own unaltered is legal in the real world, outside the Etsyverse.

Etsy policy only applies to some people. They let others get away with breaking policy.

I wish Etsy would realize sellers are their way of making money and maybe their rules should be more fair.

Sellers that make etsy lots of money 100% get special treatment. Near impossible to get the boot if you feed etsy advertising funds and so on..

If youre new and cheap and get complaints you’ll be gone quick

I see what some are saying for example if you put dallas cowboys shirt in there some peolpe are selling them for years as knock offs and it seems some get flagged right away for it! That is where I am wondering what you can do and not do and do they have some way of scanning the mock up I notice so many people have busy mock ups with like a shirt and they will have shoes and other nik nacks on the side of the mock up. Seems weird so many do that is there a reason?

Yeah i see lots of etsy sellers on here, i wish i knew what to sell. i need more venues.
