How do you get past the Etsy US seller rule where they require you to put a SSN for new US sellers?

anyone know how to get past this? this seems to be the hardest hurdle for stealth accounts in the us...

they only ask for the last 4 of your social. you can make up anything. they won't check this until you hit 15,000 in sales.
they won't report to your taxes until you hit 20,000 in sales

I have an account with etsy that I have had for 3 years. Never had more than $1000 in sales in any year. I just wasn't using it that much. This year I am selling more on etsy. Once I hit $9500 in sales, I got the message about adding my SS#. All sales stopped until I added complete SS#. Once they had it, magically sales started again. There was no option to add only the last 4.

Wrong mate. They check it when creating account.

they have been changing things lately. if you sign up for an account right now, they only ask for the last 4 of your social. not the whole thing. They DO WANT your whole social but don't require it for account opening.
I entered the last 4 and wouldn't give them my full social. They sent me this email later:

And those 4 last digits has to match. Otherwise you'll not open an account

Can you just update it to business and give them tax ID?

You can enter mismatching and then upload what they ask. Or check the marketplace for Etsy account sellers
