Deactivated: Prohibited Items
 

This never happened to me before but a listing was deactivated for being prohibited item. Does anyone know this stacks with a DMCA stike?

Did you receive an email? If you did, what exactly did it say?

A DMCA strike is when someone else claims to have copyright over your listing while a prohibited item means your listing was counter to et si's prohibited items policy, like drugs, tobacco, violent items etc.

Also a copyright strike you can file a counter notice and get you listing back after 10 business days if the other party takes no further action. Not so with a prohibited item.

We consider counterfeit or unauthorized goods to be items that imitate an authentic good, particularly by using a brand’s name, logo, or protected design without the brand owner’s consent in a manner that is likely to cause confusion. If Etsy has reason to believe your listings may be counterfeit or unauthorized, we may remove these listings."


The word was Chanel, so Etsy prohibited items is stepping into IP territory. This was not a Dmca by chanel

And I was not selling rep chanel shirt, it was a birthday design that looked like the N 5 perfume logo.

Probably because that brand is from a company with teeth. They have successfully put counterfeiters in jail. And et si wants to toe the line, as they have been slammed for it over the years. It's like the worst brand you could pick, how long did the listing last? 15 minutes ? LOL

I second this.

Any well-known luxury brand (Gucci/LV/Channel/etc) is a huge NO-NO on Etsy.

That listing lasted about 4 years and sold over 1000 times actually. Like I said it wasn't a direct knock off and it was a single tag. It never got any traffic from the tag and I was dumb for missing it since it was so old. This banning words for company thing is new. Hopefully it stops at counterfeiters If they start working for say Disney half of etsy is ****ed.

Cant have brand names in a tag, its a no no. Chanel could crush et si like an ant, so much bigger, explains the brand being promoted to "prohibited substance" status.
They still flog ⊗⊗⊗⊗ LV bags on et si, with no LV in title or tag, just search "luxury handbag". Though some brands have wised up the general term search trick too. Fortnite have.

Well update on this... Etsy just reactivated my listing??? It still has the Chanel tag?? I deleted the listing entirely but this is just weird at this point.
Untested personal theory is their bots went a bit too crazy on take downs for words like bone Ivry Chanl and is now fixing them.

Was the reinstatement automatic or had you contacted them before about the notice?
