New to Etsy?

Hello I am new to Etsy, and I have made account using my own details, I wanted to create products and sell them, but I was wondering what if from Ali express or Alibaba I were to contact suppliers and companies to create these things for me? of course by me making or customizing am sure it wouldn't pop up as red flags ? ? I wouldn't want to be banned

When you list on Etsy, they ask in the listing whether the product is manufactured or homemade so it depends on the product you are selling as to what you will answer and if you are contravening their terms. For example if it is a support product for the manufacture of another sellers products it can be manufactured by another company, such as sublimation ink for the printing of tee shirts.

You can go to Etsy and do your own research, sales is VERY VERY SLOW now on Etsy, you can go to its seller forum and click on those sellers who complain of no sales for months, they are selling things people dont need right now or they are cheaper elsewhere.
Silver coins could be a good seller.

I second this, the coins sell well, you will take a loss most times, but...its good for building feedback and attracting a customer base who loves them.. buy bulk on SD Bullion, or even eBay, and you can mark up the prices on Etsy by 50-100% depending on the item.. right now I am investing in one-of-a-kind silver and gold items, pendants, natural gold nuggets, etc.

So you can buy lets say...10 One-Gram Gold bars from Valcambi Suisse. You get them for under $90 spot price, especially in bulk (There is a 16%+ premium on the small bars of gold) you can sell them for double the premium on Etsy.

I loved my customers (I am a coin/bullion shop, we also sell gems like rubies and sapphires), but they would save alot money NOT buying gold or silver on Etsy...but hey, they put food on my table so I love them)

And to answer your question, retail arbitrage (i.e; buying on eBay and selling on Etsy) is not allowed...just say it was handmade, if it is to be believed, and for manufactured items add a Production Partner (the company that refines, or produces the product) and mark that you are involved in the process somehow)

I mark my production partners as such

"Vintage" (before years 2000) > "A Finished Product" > "I do not have the technical ability to produce it myself" > "They produce the item, and I add branding and packaging" OR "We collaborate in the production process together" you know, whatever.

My production partners included multi-million dollar gold refining companies, etc etc.

Ran that way for selling silver and gold coins, worked like a charm for many months (Suspended for unrelated, I think it was competition because I was getting threatening messages from other random users and shops towards the end [I was making about $4500 a month over three months).

Just take it easy, and I know for a fact the Etsy looks much more favorably on accounts that started as buyer accounts, and then slowly (after 3 weeks) started a shop, and went into sales (Go SLOW), as well as your Tax ID info being verified without a hitch (ID Request) I have done it with an address and social tied to that address, to the "T" (Correct and verifiable in the IRS Database) and I never got asked for a drivers license, etc.

If you go to get your credit or background check/report, you can see the last 3 addresses the IRS recognizes listed somewhere, all of those should verify with your proper info and go through the system.

Good luck, keep us posted!

Plenty of Etsy sellers find items to resell from Ebay,as long as you take them into inventory (paid for),it is not retail arbitrage.
If you are asking an ALI seller to make things for you,you can list his company, just dont mention Aliexpress or ALIBABA.
Listing fee is 20 cents for 3 months.

Re: New to Etsy?

It is my observation prices are higher on Etsy because the seller either found it on Ebay and mark it up to resell on Etsy OR many are brick and mortar stores ,they cant lower their Etsy prices than their store price ,then their customers will complain.
Silver and gold coins and bars sell better than silver and gold jewelry .

The name you register with Etsy must agree with the name of your bank account.,name of the shop does not matter.
