A new concern regarding Etsy Selfies
 

Etsy started requiring selfie across the entire platform this Wednesday. Based on my experience with UK and NL accounts, previously, if the information matched their database, you could open a shop without uploading ID.

Now that facial recognition is being implemented, I’m concerned that Etsy might still treat accounts differently even after passing this step. Accounts that didn’t match the database might be at higher risk of being quickly shut down, flagged on the first order, or put into vacation mode... I am sure AI can solve the selfie.

Your ideas?

Are you able to opt out of the selfie and upload ID? Just wondering - I havent created accounts on etsy but good to learn

This is not so,I have an Etsy shop.I have not received any notice from them

All new accounts, 100% Selfie.

Fill out all the required details on the last setup page, including your name, address, and bank information. After that, click "Continue" and proceed to the selfie verification page.

Previously, if the person's information matched the ETSY database, clicking "Continue" would take them to the page to add their credit card details (which, once added, allowed them to open their shop immediately). If the information didn't match the database, they would be prompted to upload an ID.

It is not possible for Etsy to collect everyone'sinformation,there are 7 billions people on this planet?

It's possible they use public records.

Either way that's a lot of privacy infringement personally

Yeah I'm just being a bit silly - only because I had to do work on population and health stuff recently so milestones were involved during research etc

There is one site I came across,tried it for a low fee,and it has so much details on a person,traffic tickets,marriage/divorce,employment,real estate transactions,licenses,relatives,past and current addresses,even a photo from your high school year book/

It is a US website,I dont know if it covers non US residents or citizens,I just look at the folks I know and they are all in USA
