can etsy match SSNs with names?
 

is etsy able to match an SSN with a name? for example, opening up a new shop, using the SSN of a friend who has never sold on etsy before.. would the shop owner name need to match that of the SSN? as in, does etsy have governmental tools that allow them to do this kind of matching? or is new SSN good enough as-is?

edit: and if they are able to match names with ssns... where do we land when it comes to bank accounts? can we have a matched name and ssn, but the bank account be under a different name?

I doubt that etsy and other web platforms have access to government tools to match SSN numbers with ppl...that would make them open to lawsuits and breach of confidentiality...I think all they have is ssn algorithm access to verify validity

They used third party which collect information on individuals ,where you were born,which schools you attended,marriage/divorce,property,bankruptcy,physical addresses and MORE !
If you ever apply for merchant account to process credit cards,how many chargebacks have you received !
Someone once try to sell a list of 3200 individuals and their SSN.

Not just once - happens regularly on black market sales

They may not have your 7 digits SSN but if they have the last 4 digits and if it matches with the other IDs like name,address,DOB etc,then it becomes a link

Yes, they won't see the bank name when you deposit.

We have gone thru this before ,Etsy wants the name of your bank account to match the name you used to open your Etsy account.
if you do not think so,just try and come back to tell us

I know for USA,names must match,and someone said UK is the same.
It makes sense,what if I hack your account and replace your bank account with mine?

1. If you're not in USA, please change your flag

2. It needs to be the bank from the same country

If you use your friend's SSN,at the end of the year ETsy will send a copy of 1099K to IRS,and IRS will expect your friend to report the income .
Does your friend know this ?

Sounds sketchy this use of friend's SSN from OP not being in the US...

'friend' could be a family member ,like spouse,grandma,grandpa,kids,ex spouse?
